Welcome to Danley Middle School

Danley has been serving the local community for over 25 years as part of a comprehensive 3-tier system. Our pupils join at age 9 and leave at 13 to go on to complete their education at the local Upper School. We endeavour to provide a wide and balanced curriculum, which produces a group of pupils who show concern and care for themselves, their families, their community and the wider environment. Each member of the Danley community is highly valued and our mission statement sums this up;

"Education for all, to provide a wide choice of opportunity in a caring and well ordered environment."

We hope these pages give you an insight into our school and once again welcome you to Danley Middle School.

Theme Week

Theme week allows year groups to explore an appropriate area of the curriculum in much greater depth freed from the normal timetabled lesson structure. Each year group study a cross curricular theme and their teachers are able to extend their work beyond the classroom through relevant educational visits. This entitlement is enjoyed by all children irrespective of ability to contribute towards costs. Representatives of each year group describe their week to the rest of the school in assembly.

Activity Week

Once a year, in June, the timetable at Danley is suspended and children choose from a variety of activities, practical, academic and sporting, in Britain and abroad. This provides pupils with an opportunity to cover a topic in depth which would not be possible during the normal timetable. Each activity provides the expertise or economies of scale which allows the school to offer educational experiences to the children which most parents could not provide on their own.

The pupils were asked, during a school assembly, to vote on whether they preferred an activity week or a normal week. The activity week won. The winning margin? Nearly seven hundred pupils!
