At Gad's Hill we firmly believe in the excellence of our teaching, the enthusiastic nature of our students and staff, our friendly, close community and that all our children should achieve success in life. We believe in these qualities and that education is primarily about "learning for life" and that whilst academic success is a priority it is only a part of what makes Gad's so successful.

We also place a strong emphasis on our non-academic curriculum of sports, drama, music and other activities which enable our children to develop their confidence and to learn other skills vital in producing successful, informed, mature and self-reliant young people who depart Gad's for the career or University placement of their choice.

Our school days, according to perceived wisdom, are supposed to be "the happiest days of your life". Here at Gad's it has always been the assumption that children who are happy and enjoy school are much more likely to learn productively and to achieve success. Therefore, it will be no surprise that, one of our priorities is to ensure that all of our pupils are happy and are able to enjoy their education here at Gad's Hill School. Here therefore, you will find small classes, where good manners are valued, picturesque surroundings and above all a positive approach help to produce an environment where your child will be happy, thrive and succeed.

KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten is where learning is fun and the emphasis is on developing individual confidence and inspiring a love of learning. Our curriculum is designed to lay good foundations for future academic success. Above all, we aim to guarantee that our children are happy and secure in a caring and stimulating environment.

Children may join our pre-school nursery from the age of three where they commence the Early Learning Program of the National Curriculum. Eventually they progress to the Reception class where they commence National Curriculum Key Stage One which culminates when they reach Year 2 aged 6.

Each day includes a generous input of literacy and numeracy teaching and our Reception class and upwards benefit from twice weekly lessons in French and also Information Technology, both taught by subject specialists.

JUNIORS

Most parents appreciate that children learn best by doing and that they have a natural ability to explore, investigate and challenge. Our Junior School curriculum seeks to build upon this undaunted love of adventure and we use this as a vehicle to carefully reinforce their academic development.

The Junior school builds upon the firm foundations laid in the Kindergarten with children following National Curriculum Key Stage 2. Literacy and Numeracy is taught by the pupils form tutors with subject specialists teaching French, DT, ICT, Science and Games.

SENIORS

In the Senior School the focus is very much upon preparation for GCSE success. It is our ultimate objective to ensure that all of our students go on to a university placement or to career of their choice. We also aim, through a varied extra-curricular programme, to produce articulate, mature and capable young adults.

Because we are a small school and we restrict class sizes to 18 - 20 pupils per class we are able to give our students much more individual attention. Our tutors know each child well and are able to target specific support when and where it is needed whether it is to stretch the more able or reinforce those who need extra assistance.

At Key Stage 4 (the GCSE years) our students study English (Language & Literature), Mathematics, Combined Science (Double Award), Information Technology, French, Design & Technology, Geography & History which means that they are entered for ten GCSE subjects. This curriculum ensures that all of our students benefit from a broad and balanced education leading ultimately to GCSE success.
