The Hayesbrook School is a fast paced and exciting place to study, the teachers are excellent, the facilities are great and you have the opportunity to develop personally as well as academically and vocationally. We have specialist sport and vocational status, and this opens up a huge range of activities and opportunities to you that will allow you to encounter a broad range of life experiences.
The Hayesbrook School is a trail-blazing school, with the post 16 area leading this charge. Links with Hillview School enable us to offer a far broader range of subjects, and the new vocational specialism ensures that there are subjects which prepare you for your future.
When you enrol at The Hayesbrook School to continue your studies you agree to participate in voluntary activities that will benefit not only yourself, but the school in general.
Studying at the Hayesbrook school beyond the age of 16 will benefit you in a number of ways. It will enable you to further your studies in the subjects that you enjoy, and you will have the opportunity to acquire the academic or vocational qualifications that will enable you to take the next step into further education or employment. You will develop friendships with your colleagues that will help you to develop a real sense of identity and finally, through your involvement within the wider school, you will gain leadership qualities and a sense of achievement gained by becoming an active part of a community.
Students who choose embark on a programme of post 16 study at the Hayesbrook school will be treated as young adults. We recognise that you have made the choice to study here, and that you are no longer a uniformed school pupil. However with this comes a level of responsibility, we expect you to manage your time and complete all work that is set. We expect you to act as a role model for the pupils lower down in the school and we expect you to repay the trust that we put in you.
As part of your interview to join us, you were asked to consider what you could do to benefit the wider school community. This is important for a number of reasons. It allows you to develop a sense of leadership and responsibility and it enables us to enhance the profile of the post 16 offering at the school.
There are a number of ways that you can get involved:
Post 16 committee
Working with the Head Boy and Sports Captain to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the post 16 team. You will be the main link between the students and the staff. You will have regular meetings with the Head Boy and Sports captain, who will filter and feedback any concerns. You will also be responsible for organising the Christmas and summer social events, and the Christmas entertainment.
CSLA (Community Sports Leadership Award)

CSLA Coordinator
A sports leadership programme that we run in partnership with Hillview and other community partners. It is a 30+ hour course that includes all aspects of leadership through sport. The sessions are timetabled in curriculum time and also in out of school hours learning time.
The qualification is an accredited course, recognised by higher education providers as a step into coaching and leadership. Students can improve their organisational skills, develop the ability to communicate with a varied audience and develop self confidence whilst leading groups of all abilities.
The course is run on an enjoyable and informal format with some students going on to take part in community based projects in the UK and Thailand.
ICT Young Leaders Award Scheme

ICT young leaders award scheme Coordinator
What it might include
The young leaders award scheme will provide you with an opportunity to develop leadership skills within the field of ICT. You will be able to experience a range of leadership tasks including support in ICT classes, support/ delivery to small groups, create resources for cross-curricular ICT, run ICT clubs/ workshops for staff and pupils, extended workshops for gifted and talented students, develop and maintain annual update news/ newsletter, run ICT clubs/ workshops in local primary schools, develop a student council website and forum (intranet).
You will be expected to log all your work in an electronic portfolio that can be assessed at the end of the year.

Charity work
This year the post 16 students at the Hayesbrook school will be supporting Hospice in the Weald. We have already had a very successful staff karaoke competition, and events will be being run and organised by the students throughout the year.

Hayesbrook is affiliated to the Youth Sports Trust and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and is also very proud to have obtained an impressive number of quality marks. These include International Schools Award, Investor in People, ArtsMark, SportsMark Gold, the Basic Skills Award, Healthy Schools Award, Kent Heartbeat Award, Clean Food Award. It holds the Kent 16+ Kitemark for its Sixth Form provision in addition to being one of only a handful of schools across the country to have received all three School Achievement Awards (2000/1, 2001/2 and 2002/3). These latter awards are in recognition of the school being placed in the top 100 Most Improved Schools in the country in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
