WELCOME!!!

Sandwich Junior School was opened on this site in 1967. The school was originally designated as a through Primary School, but in 1977 two separate schools were created with the Infant pupils returning to the original Victorian building in School Road. However, both the Infants and Junior Schools continue to maintain a very close link.

At present the school has eight classes arranged into two parallel classes per year group. There is a large school hall (used for PE, assemblies, dining etc.) and a kitchen which provides cooked meals for both the Infant and Junior Schools, as well as Worth County Primary School. The school is also blessed with two large playgrounds and extensive playing fields that provide plenty of room for the children to play a variety of games and sports.

By providing a broad, interesting and relevant curriculum we aim to develop life-long learners with all the skills necessary to cope with life in the 21st century.. We encourage positive social behaviour with a respect for others, be they adults or children. We believe that every child has the right to work in a calm, orderly and secure environment and we endeavour to work in partnership with parents. Thereby we trust that every child will be able to achieve their full potential.

ETHOS

It is our aim that every member of our school community feels valued and secure, regardless of gender, race, creed, age or ability.

At Sandwich Junior School we aim for our children to grow and develop in an environment where they are listened to and respected as well as being cared for and given secure boundaries.

Therefore pupils are encouraged to uphold these values:

- telling the truth

- keeping promises

- respecting the rights and property of others

- acting considerately towards others

- helping those less fortunate and weaker than ourselves

- taking personal responsibility for their actions

- self-discipline

Pupils are encouraged to reject:

- bullying

- cheating

- deceit

- cruelty

- irresponsibility

- dishonesty

By encouraging the above we aim to create citizens with high levels of self-esteem and confidence, who have both tolerance and respect for others and a caring and responsible attitude towards everything around them. By providing a happy and stimulating learning environment that enables each child to develop his/her potential to the full, we aim to equip our pupils with the necessary application, knowledge and skills to cope with life in a fast-changing world.

UNIFORM

The school colours are Blue and Gold with supplementary colours of black, white or grey. Sweatshirts bearing the school logo are available from the School Office at a reasonable price. Whilst there is no obligation to wear the school colours, the vast majority of parents prefer their children to do so and the school positively encourages this. Uniform adds a touch of quality to any school and promotes a sense of loyalty amongst the wearers.

Please note – Football shirts are not allowed.

PE CLOTHING

PE is a compulsory part of the curriculum and it is important that pupils have the correct clothing to change into.

INDOORS

House T-shirt (blue, red, green or yellow)

Shorts or netball skirt (not Bermudas)

Plimsolls with rubber soles (not trainers)

Or

Bare feet

OUTDOORS

Sweatshirt or T-shirt

Shorts or netball skirt

Tracksuit/Old sweater (winter only)

Plimsolls/Trainers/Football boots (depending on activity)

A drawstring bag to hold all of the above.

NB It is important that all articles of clothing are clearly marked with the child’s name.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities. It must be emphasised that these are entirely voluntary “extras” that are organised by the teachers. Activities that have recently been available include:-

Football, Netball, Cricket, Rugby, Drama, Speed Stacking, Choir, Chess, Sewing and Gardening.

Children and parents are advised from time to time as to what is currently available – depending upon the season and the interests and availability of staff.
