Our curriculum aims to:-
• provide by example and teaching the moral and spiritual development of pupils
• meet the requirements of each individual child
• serve the needs of the National Curriculum
In 1638 Sir John Sedley founded the School, which has now served the village, from the original building, for a period of 368 years. His Coat of Arms forms the basis of the School's badge shown above.
The Governing Body has, in line with County Policy, adopted the following aims:-
To maintain and develop in pupils:-

To develop competence in, together with emphasis on:-

The values sought to foster communal life are those revealed in the Christian faith. To this end, Religious Education and Collective Worship play an integral part, as do the links with home, Church and village.
The National Curriculum is made up of four core subjects, seven foundation subjects and Religious Education.

All children learn to read fluently and with enjoyment. A wide variety of approaches and materials are used in order to achieve this, but the school is very aware of the need for parents’ contribution in reading to and with their children, as well as in hearing them read, and encouraging them to want to keep reading.
The school is keen to develop higher order reading skills and work towards the accuracy in reading and comprehension, so essential in order to access so much of the National Curriculum, especially at Key Stage 2.
The school aims to develop enquiring minds, an ability to listen and speak effectively, and to understand and respond meaningfully in speech and writing to a wide variety of stimuli. Parents can help at home by providing stimulating reading material, sharing books and reading with the children. Engaging them in meaningful conversation helps extend vocabulary and imagination, which leads to a high standard of writing and the development of research skills.
The school encourages an investigative approach to the understanding of mathematics and science. Topics in history and geography are often practically based. Computers are used to aid learning in all subject areas, so that the children become computer literate from an early age.
P.E., drama, music and art offer further opportunities for the children to express themselves creatively, as well as fostering personal and social development.
The school uses a variety of equipment and material to cover the curriculum. Teachers design some of the material, some includes published schemes of work and resources from the internet are also utilised. In this way we ensure that all subjects of the National Curriculum are covered.
The balance of the curriculum ensures that children have a wide range of experiences.
There is a programme of sex education within our policy and scheme for Healthy Living and Growing. We aim to answer the children's questions factually and sympathetically as they arise.
There is a central non-fiction library and book areas within each classroom. Children, who wish, visit the public Mobile Library at the village hall car park on Wednesday afternoons. Children are expected to take home a reading book to share with an adult, or to read independently, on a daily basis.
There are a number of clubs which take place throughout the year and others which are seasonal.

The school participates in Primary School Swimming Galas, and in football and netball matches against local schools.

The school is usually over subscribed for admission. Our Standard Number is 11 so we are unlikely to be prepared to admit more than 11 pupils in Year R. Our selection along with LEA policy is as follows:-
a) Parents' wishes
b) Denominational preference
c) Current family association (if an elder brother or sister is already in School at the time of entry and the family continues to live at the same address as when the sibling was admitted or has moved to a new property within two miles via the shortest available walking route of the school)
d) Health reasons (for which a health certificate or Doctor’s letter will be needed)
e) Nearness of children's homes as measured by a straight line and ease of access to School

N.B: 1. Shoes and Plimsolls should only have laces if the child is able to tie them.
2. Our cloakrooms are such that we have no room for bags other than bookbags and drawstring bags that can hang underneath a coat on a peg.
All pupils are expected to wear the uniform as it is practical and gives the children a sense of identity with the School. Please ensure that ALL your child's garments, including shoes and plimsolls are CLEARLY NAMED. This does not mean that articles are never lost, but that, hopefully, they may be traced more easily.
Children are expected to change themselves for P.E. and should manage this virtually unaided in a short time.
Please do not send your child to school in any jewellery. If ears are pierced, then plain studs may be worn, but these will have to be removed for all P.E. and games lessons. If your child wears a watch, it should be functional - not a toy - and she/he must be responsible for it at all times.
