We hope that they will always remember their time here with us with fond memories.

Mission Statement

  • At Sherwood Park Primary School, we endeavour to sustain a happy, stable, safe and orderly environment in which children are educated and developed to their full potential.
  • We equip our pupils with the basic tools for learning, i.e. literacy, numeracy and oracy, in accordance with the National Curriculum, offering a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • We provide pupils with first hand experiences in order to make the work stimulating and meaningful. This will encourage a positive and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • We aim to develop independence, co-operation and self motivation in our pupils.
  • We endeavour to foster good relationships between school, home and the community.
  • As we believe that children learn best in an environment free from prejudice, we actively encourage respect for and understanding of all cultures and faiths within the school and wider community.
  • We aim to offer equality of opportunity for all pupils
  • We value our children and their opinions and encourage this caring attitude throughout the school
  • Children learn best when their efforts are recognised resulting in a sense of worth and achievement.
  • We aim to continue good working practices between staff, children and parents.

CURRICULUM

We provide a broad and balanced education for all children in agreement with the principles of the National Curriculum. All the children will study English, Maths, Science, Design Technology, Information Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education.

The National Curriculum requirements are met in a topic based approach or as discreet subjects. We carry out both formal and informal assessments to monitor children's progress. Our curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our children and helps to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Our curriculum aims to increase the children's knowledge, experience and understanding. We adopt a range of teaching styles, whole class, group and individual, that will challenge children with a range of problems and promote enjoyable learning. Children have equal access to the curriculum regardless of sex, race, religion or physical capabilities.

Schemes of Work for each subject, appropriate to each year group are available for inspection by parents.

LINKS WITH THE PRIMARY SCHOOL

We hope to make moving to school a positive, happy experience for the children. We introduce the children to activities and experiences that take place in school or with older children. For example, we take the children to PE in the hall; sing with the reception children; go to appropriate assemblies and take part in school events.

Please note, however, that acceptance at the Nursery does not mean an automatic place in the Primary School.
