About Us

Spinnens Acre Community Junior School was opened in 1979 at the same time as our neighbouring Swingate Infant School.

The school has been improved and extended considerably over the years and the following facilities are set in our beautiful grounds, surrounded by trees and wild nature areas:

  • 2 halls
  • Rooms for small group work
  • 2 ICT suites
  • 14 classrooms each with interactive whiteboards, projectors and internet access
  • A dedicated after school club room with access to the library, sports facilities and ICT equipment
  • A shared work area for each year group
  • A suite of offices and workrooms for staff and for meetings with parents
  • 3 playgrounds
  • A multi-sports pitch
  • An adventure playground
  • A large playing field for sports, games and tournaments
  • Dedicated rooms for the work of The Place 2 Be, a counselling and emotional support service for our children
  • Shady picnic area with games benches and a raised herb garden perfect for wheelchair users
  • With pupil numbers now falling in Medway we are slowly reducing the class numbers to 3 per year.  This has provided us with additional space and facilities to run breakfast and after school clubs and will provide dedicated areas for wet/messy play etc.

We are a caring school, with dedicated staff; supporting our children every step of the way and providing them with fantastic equipment, facilities and opportunities.

CURRICULUM

The school curriculum comprises all learning and other experiences that each school provides for its pupils. This includes the national curriculum, religious education, collective worship, sex and relationship education and careers education.

The school curriculum has two aims:

  • To provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and achieve
  • To promote pupils' spiritual, moral social and cultural development and prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

The following information has been taken from the National Curriculum Website, if you would like to read more please click here and select key stage 2 in the subject you are interested in.

English

Pupils learn to change the way they speak and write to suit different situations, purposes and audiences. They read a range of texts and respond to different layers of meaning in them.
Mathematics Pupils use the number system more confidently. They move from counting reliably to calculating fluently with all four number operations. They always try to tackle a problem with mental methods before using any other approach.
Science Pupils learn about a wider range of living things, materials and phenomena. They begin to make links between ideas and to explain things using simple models and theories.
Design and Technology Pupils work on their own and as part of a team on a range of designing and making activities. They think about what products are used for and the needs of the people who use them.
ICT Pupils use a wider range of ICT tools and information sources to support their work in other subjects. They develop their research skills and decide what information is appropriate for their work.
History Pupils learn about significant people, events and places from both the recent and more distant past. They learn about change and continuity in their own area, in Britain and in other parts of the world.
Geography Pupils investigate a variety of people, places and environments at different scales in the United Kingdom and abroad, and start to make links between different places in the world.
Art and Design

Pupils develop their creativity and imagination through more complex activities. These help to build on their skills and improve their control of materials, tools and techniques.
Music Pupils sing songs and play instruments with increasing confidence, skill, expression and awareness of their own contribution to a group or class performance.

Physical Education

Pupils enjoy being active and using their creativity and imagination in physical activity. They learn new skills, find out how to use them in different ways, and link them to make actions, phrases and sequences of movement.
