We aim to foster each child’s intellectual, physical and creative abilities and to enable every child to achieve excellence at his or her own level. The curriculum has been organised so that all topics contained within the national curriculum are covered during the four years each child is in our school, hence providing continuity and progression within each subject. In addition to this, each class’s planning is informed in an on-going manner by the needs of the individuals within that class.
Our expectations challenge each child to fulfil his/her potential according to his/her individual capabilities. We plan work which will stimulate the child to think proactively and provide opportunities to develop the skills necessary to raise, pose and answer questions, devise investigations and record and interpret results critically. We very much want our pupils to become confident and independent learners. In order to meet the requirements of individual children, we have a very efficient special educational needs department and also run programmes to address the needs of our more able pupils.
Beyond the Classroom
A full range of clubs and societies provide our children with additional opportunities to discover new talents, make new friends and develop their interests. Through such involvement children are able to gain confidence and experience successes in addition to that provided by curricular activities in the classroom. Sports and games are well represented as extra curricular activities and we pride ourselves on the achievements of the school teams which include football, netball, kwik cricket, swimming, basket ball, rugby and athletics. We have a very active Chess Club and enter a team in the Kent Junior School Tournament every year. The creative arts are another prized area, with a musical production being performed on an annual basis: in recent years these have included, “Oliver!”, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”. We also have a school choir and the school runs a music workshop every year to which other schools are invited. Other clubs currently include, dance, revision, problem solving, aerobics and fabric technology. |
