Welcome to The Hundred of Hoo Media Arts School.
The school caters for students 11 to 18 years. The school is well developed to offer the best in learning resources and an excellent environment for our pupils and staff to achieve their best.

I am delighted to introduce you to The Hundred of Hoo Comprehensive School's Website. I hope that you will find it both informative and interesting.
Location & Tradition  The school is a Comprehensive School where everyone is given an equal opportunity to be different and to succeed. We educate the academically brilliant and those who find school life difficult. All students are given equal access to a stimulating and demanding curriculum. Staff, parents and governors all work together to create an educational environment in which young people can develop academically socially and culturally.
Mission Statement  We aim to value and promote the abilities of all students to the full, always encouraging an enquiring mind and a real love of learning, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
The school has a long tradition of academic excellence, order and mutual respect. It has a purposeful and creative atmosphere based upon the encouragement of self motivation and sound discipline.

SIXTH FORM

Students in the Sixth Form enter into a partnership agreement with the school.  The Hundred of Hoo will agree to provide students with the education, support and advice that they need, and in return we expect students to conduct themselves and work in a way that is appropriate to a Sixth form student at Hoo.

 We recognise that students have rights and privileges, but expect them to have responsibilities in return.

 In the Sixth Form we agree to provide students with -

 

v            Specialist education related to their needs, interests and ability.

v            Facilities for, and guidance in, independent study.

v            A programme of additional studies and extra-curricular opportunities.

v            A framework of support, help and guidance for all students.

v            Regular information about academic and vocational progress and potential, and advice on Higher Education and Employment.

 In return, we expect students to -

 

v            Attend all lessons, tutorials, additional studies and assemblies.

v            Maintain a 95% attendance rate.

v            Not to leave the school premises without permission.

v            Complete all set work by the agreed time.

v           Study independently and conduct themselves in a mature manner, dressing according to the set guidelines.

v            Not undertake part-time employment that would prevent them spending at least 15 hours per week on home study, in addition to the work done in school.

v            Not undertake part-time work in school hours [that is 8.30 a.m. to 3.10 p.m.]

v            Non-Completion of courses or coursework portfolio requirements, or failure to attend examinations will result in payment.

 We hope that this partnership will enable students to make the most of their time in the Sixth Form.

Sixth form students at The Hundred of Hoo School are expected to maintain a high standard of dress.  References for employment and further and higher education usually seek details on appearance.  It is, therefore, in each student's interest to maintain a consistently high standard.

Dress requirements are as follows:

MEN 

A suit or tailored jacket and tailored trousers.
Plain formal shirt and tie, or roll-neck Jumper.
Leather type shoes (not trainers or boots).
A plain V neck jumper/cardigan may be worn under a jacket (tie to be visible).
Outdoor coats must not be worn around the building.
Denim is not acceptable formal wear.

Optional:

One pair of earrings
One small ring
No other facial piercing

WOMEN

A suit or tailored jacket and tailored trousers or skirt or smart dress (knee to mid-calf length)
Formal blouse
Leather type shoes (not trainers or boots)
A plain jumper/cardigan can be worn under a jacket
Outdoor coats must not be worn around the building
Discrete day makeup
Denim is not acceptable formal wear

Optional:

One pair of earrings
One small ring
No other facial piercing

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the student being sent home to remedy the situation.

Sixth Form Students are complemented on their high standards of dress – do not let us down!!

CURRICULUM

The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum which is designed to meet the educational needs of all our students and which matches the requirements of the National Curriculum.

We strive to maintain high, traditional academic standards. Every effort is made to cater for the needs of all our students whatever their ability. In order to achieve this equal opportunity to succeed, we teach in ability groups in most subject areas.

All students are expected and encouraged to work to their full potential.

YEARS 7, 8 and 9

All students are given the opportunity to gain worthwhile experience in a wide variety of curriculum areas so that a sound foundation is laid for G.C.S.E. courses. The National Curriculum, Key Stage 3, culminates in Year 9. Click Here for Chris and Curtis' guide to surviving Y9.

The subjects studied are:English, Mathematics, Science, French, Technology, Music, Art; Physical Education, History, Geography, Personal and Social Education (P.S.E.) including Religious Education, Drama and Information Technology.
There is an opportunity to study two Modern Languages from Year 8.
Students are usually taught in ability groups.

YEARS 10 AND 11

Guided choice with depth and breadth. The broad and balanced curriculum is maintained in Years 10 and 11 to avoid premature specialisation. G.C.S.E. courses are chosen to meet the demands of the National Curriculum but with additional subjects being selected from a wide range on offer.

All students study: English, Mathematics, Double Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Physical Education and Personal and Social Education

They choose also: 1. A modern language 2. A technological subject 3. Two further subjects Further subjects include: Art, 3-Dimensional Design, History, Geography, Social Science, Drama, Music, Physical Education (G.C.S.E.), Religious Studies and a second foreign language. All students have the opportunity of studying 9 G.C.S.E. subjects. The cross curricular themes include: Economic awareness, Health education, Environmental education and Multicultural issues. Information Technology is taught across the curriculum.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

The School considers activities beyond the normal curriculum to be an important and integral part of a young person's education. There are extensive facilities which provide the opportunity to offer an extremely wide range of activities. Another Brick on the Wall

The school has exceptionally good facilities for the production of plays and musicals and each year at least two major drama productions are staged which involve large numbers of students. Art, Music and Drama are combined in our Creative Arts Faculty and provide extracurricular activities.

Swimming

All major sports have school teams and the school has an excellent record of success in local and county competitions.

The school takes advantage of its close proximity to London and there are frequent visits to Conferences, Theatres, Sporting events, Concerts, Exhibitions and Museums. However, we go further afield than London: each year we have student exchanges with European countries and the Ski trip is a regular event.

There is a good tradition of Public Speaking and debates in the School. We have school debates, Sixth Form debates, and Public Speaking Competitions. Success has come in competitions at local and national level

Other clubs include: Chess, Computer, Science, Environment, Model Car, Christian Union, Art and Italian. Musical activities include Choir, Orchestra and Ensembles.
