Unicorn Primary School

On behalf of staff and governors I would like to welcome you to Unicorn Primary School, Bromley’s new purpose built primary school, which opened in September 2003.  I am very proud to be the first head teacher of this beautiful school and am delighted with the facilities that the school has to offer.  Judging by the comments we have had so far from parents and children, you will be too.

Children are at the centre of everything we do at Unicorn Primary.  Our aim is to provide an exciting learning environment in which children are excited to learn and are given the confidence to achieve their potential.

Our Ofsted report 2006 stated "Care is of the highest quality and pupils receive excellent support, whatever their ability."

We foster strong links between home and school, actively encouraging parents to be closely involved in their child’s education.  All our staff and governors are an enthusiastic, dedicated team of people who are committed to strive to achieve the very best for each and every child within our care.

Yours sincerely,
Sue Robertson
Head Teacher

As a new school, Unicorn Primary offers parents a unique opportunity to shape and contribute to the education of their children.   For most of us, the first day at school is even more nerve-wracking for us parents than for our children!   The fact that the Unicorn staff actively seek parental involvement in the life of the school, helps ease our natural anxieties and strengthen the partnership between school and parent, which is key to our children’s success and happiness at school.

From planting trees to stamping library books, it’s all hands on deck.   Whether you are able to help out on an ad hoc basis, or want to become more actively involved by joining the Friends of Unicorn Primary School group, your help and input is always welcomed and valued.   Staff are open and receptive to comments from parents.

A strong parental support network has already built up and we are looking forward to welcoming new parents in the coming years.

"Children make a good start in Reception because of good teaching and provision.  Parents are overwhelmingly supportive.  One commented 'These are very lucky children' and another said 'I couldn't be happier'"  Ofsted 2006

At Unicorn Primary we are proud of the quality of our Reception Class, which is well equipped and staffed by a committed teacher and support assistants.  In the Reception Class your child will explore new ideas and begin to develop new skills and interests as they progress through the Foundation Stage before going onto to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.

We look forward to developing an effective home-school partnership with you to help your child learn and thrive whilst at Unicorn.

The criteria for admission to Unicorn Primary School is that laid down by Bromley Local Education Authority.

Priority is given to children in public care followed by siblings of children already attending the school and then by the proximity of the child's home in relation to the school as measured in a straight line from front door of their home to the front door of the school.  (Parents may be asked to provide documentary evidence to confirm an address.)

The full explanation of the criteria is laid out in the Admission to Primary School in Bromley 2008/2009 brochure which is available from 1st November 2007 and can be obtained through the Civic Centre, primary and infant schools, local libraries and the Childcare Information Service in Westmoreland Road.  From 1st November this document can also be downloaded from

Application forms to apply for places in Bromley schools are incorporated within the admissions brochure or applications can be made on line at
