WELCOME!!!

Wainscott School has evolved from its village school beginnings to a thriving, forward looking community school.  The school is not about one key purpose, but many purposes.  Pupils, parents and staff work together to create an environment where the children are both challenged and encouraged to tackle their work confidently.

I hope that you will find our website gives you a flavour of the ethos of the school as well as being informative.

Alison Tester (Headteacher)

The School

The school has served the local community since 1874.  It still retains a 'village school' atmosphere although the village of Wainscott has expanded over the years.  It is a popular school and attracts pupils from beyond the immediate area.  At present there are seven classes (one per age group) beginning with the foundation class (children who have yet to reach their fifth birthday).  The First School pupils are housed in a building dating from 1980.  Over the last ten years new classrooms for the junior pupils, an ICT suite and administration offices have been added.  A new Sports Hall facility was opened in 2004 following a successful bid to Space for Sports and Arts.  This hall will be used by the school and will be available outside school hours for community use.  The hall and old staff room in the original Victorian building now houses Smilers Pre School while the remaining rooms continue to be used by the school.

MISSION STATEMENT

Education should prepare each child for life.  More than ever before, tomorrow's adult will need to be adaptable and to be able to make informed choices as far as work and leisure are concerned; to contribute to society as a responsible citizen; to act within a moral/spiritual frame of reference.  It will be necessary for individuals to be aware of their place in society and in the world family; to have tolerance and to appreciate differing opinions; to have a compassionate view of one's fellows and accept personal responsibilities towards people and the environment.

We see the foundations of such an education as being a partnership, a joint responsibility of parents and teachers.  Together we can assist the all round development of your child: intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, morally and spiritually.  In all these areas we seek to open 'doors of opportunity' for your child by offering a broad and balanced curriculum within a stimulating and supportive atmosphere and a safe and secure environment.

Within this framework your child will live and learn as an individual but also as a member of a social group composed of children and adults.  Each child's welcome to this group is vital and integration essential.  Friendliness and co-operation should become part of everyday life.  Every child must be helped to participate and to contribute, however humbly, to the life of the school and so achieve a sense of belonging as well as a sense of responsibility.  Consideration for others, as well as respect and care for surroundings, for shared property and for the property of others must be a continual theme of everyday life at school.

This is an open school and you, as a parent, will be encouraged to take an interest in your child's progress.  We offer you opportunities to consult teachers whenever necessary and value your interest and support.  An annual written report on your child's progress will be sent to you and an opportunity to discuss it made available.

The efforts and achievements of your child will be celebrated by us whenever possible.
