WICKHAM COURT SCHOOL
Welcome to Wickham Court School, a co-educational day school for pupils between the ages of 2 1/2 and 16, nursery through to the end of Key Stage 4. It is, as you will see, a very special place.
Wickham Court School offers a superb education in an historical and culturally rich setting. Here, you will find energetic, happy pupils, dedicated and experienced teachers, small classes, grounds that exude history and a safe and secure environment for learning.
Our school is a place that imparts to its pupils a love of learning and a reverence for ideas. It is a place that nurtures the total person, a place that educates character as well as intellect. And most assuredly, it is a place that will never overlook what Emerson called "the genius of the individual."
Wickham Court School is committed to providing an excellent education for pupils between the ages of 2 1/2 and 16 irrespective of nationality, religion, race or class. We seek to provide an environment for learning that is safe and secure; one that is aesthetically enriching, and one that enables all pupils to reach their full potential through a dedicated staff and outstanding facilities. We believe that small classes and individualised attention for all our pupils is essential for learning to flourish, and we recognise the education is very much a partnership between pupil, school and family. Finally, while our focus is certainly academic in nature, we are committed to educating the whole person and, indeed, to helping our pupils understand the importance of responsibility, compassion, fairness and honesty in all their endeavours.
Our aim is to provide high-quality learning, guiding the children through the early learning goals and in some cases beyond these goals in
preparation for Key Stage 1. Pupils are nurtured in a fun and caring
environment encouraging them to enjoy the full variety of activities.
The foundation stage curriculum is organised into six areas of learning:
* Personal, social and emotional development.
* Language and literacy.
* Knowledge and understanding of the world.
* Physical development.
* Creative development
Pupils enjoy a wider curriculum from Year 1 and important academic studies are balanced with an exciting range of activities, outings, guest speakers, visiting entertainers and after school clubs. Test results in Key Stages 1 and 2 are consistently above average and we encourage all pupils to participate in the excellent musical and drama productions each term.
This splendid Manor House with its peaceful gardens has proved to be the ideal environment for the pupils of our Early Years and Junior departments. We could not have predicted just how proud the pupils would be of having such an historic and inspiring setting in which to enjoy academic, sporting and leisure activities. The school has achieved considerable success since it opened in 2002 and we now feel that this is the perfect time to offer the same successful formula to children embarking upon their Senior
By remaining true to our ethos of "an excellent education for all, based on small classes and individual attention," we offer a unique alternative to the large senior schools of today. We offer the opportunity for children to continue to be educated in the happy, caring and secure environment they have experienced at junior school level as opposed to the often daunting prospect of transferring to a large senior school. To ensure continuity and a smooth, steady growth, we will add a year group each September, finally adding Year 11 by the year 2009. After sitting their G.C.S.E. examinations, pupils would then transfer to one of the excellent sixth form schools and colleges we are fortunate to have in the area, or pursue one of the many alternative options for pupils at this stage in their education.Fees are very competitive and additionally, we are delighted to be able to offer a 30% academic scholarship to one pupil each year entering year 7. This generous award will benefit the successful pupils throughout their time at Wickham Court School.
Educational foundations for life
The senior department will be an integral part of the existing school. Run by Head Teacher, Mrs. Barbara Hunter, specialist teachers of the highest calibre will be employed to teach the full range of subjects you will expect your child to be offered at an independent school, together with an exciting range of extra curricular activities. Applications are considered throughout the year and as you will have many questions, we would be pleased to welcome you to the school to view the facilities and discuss this exciting new project. We look forward to your call to arrange an appointment.
Anonymity is frequently the enemy of learning. At Wickham Court School, no one is anonymous and all of our children are treated as unique individuals. We know that they have talents and abilities and aspirations. They have promise. It is our job to help them discover and build on that promise.
Small class sizes are essential, and our commitment to each child is reflected in our determination to ensure that no one is ever lost in a Wickham Court classroom. For us, having small classes is not a luxury, it is an essential for learning to flourish. Our small classes ensure interaction between teacher and pupil and between pupil and peer. We are also committed to the 'basics.' A thorough grounding in English, science, mathematics, and a foreign language provides children with the confidence to unlock many doors and thereby to tap their full potential.
Our students explore their creative sides through the study of art, music, dance and drama. They also receive instruction in information technology.
