PRIMARY SCHOOL

Buckden is a happy and thriving school. We are very proud of the achievements of our children, the quality of their work, and the standard of their behaviour. The staff are highly skilled and committed to providing the very best education. We work hard to ensure that all our children make progress both academically and socially and leave Buckden feeling prepared and ready for the next phase in their learning.

Buckden CE Primary School is a co-educational day school catering for children between the ages of five and eleven. As a Voluntary Controlled school, within the Diocese of Ely, Buckden enjoys strong links with St Mary’s Parish Church. Clergy from other churches in the village also visit the school. The school is situated in the attractive village of Buckden which is near Huntingdon and adjacent to the A1. Buckden is a large, thriving village with an unusually wide range of activities and facilities.

THE AIMS AND VALUES OF BUCKDEN CE SCHOOL
  • We promote the development of each individual; academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
  • We foster each child’s talents in an environment where they feel secure and supported as well as challenged and inspired.
  • We encourage a sense of community through the shared values of care, courtesy, co-operation and consideration, in the belief that our pupils shall become valued members of society.
  • We encourage children, through a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, to contribute fully to the life of their school and communities.

Our extended schools provision includes Buccaneers – a very successful before and after school social club. We also offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities (an annual update of the range of activities on offer is published at the start of each term - look out for details of these coming home with newsletters).

BUCCANEERS

Welcome to Bucanneers

Buccaneers is the out of school club at Buckden C.E. School, caring for children before and after the school day.

It is based on school premises and has it’s own clubroom, plus the use of other areas of the school.

Any child attending the school can register to use the club.

Buccaneers aims to be a high-quality childcare facility catering for children aged 4 – 11 years in a happy, secure environment. The club has a wide range of toys, games, creative resources and leisure equipment to suit all ages. The emphasis is on fun and relaxation. We aim to provide an enriching and stimulating environment where children can try out new things, make friends and play. Children are given the opportunity to develop creative and social skills and to take appropriate levels of responsibility.

The focus of the Buccaneers activity programme is on fun, relaxation and free choice for the children. The club offers a mixture of free play opportunities and structured activities and children are free to choose how they spend their time there.

Over the last few years, Buccaneers has steadily built up a wide range of equipment and resources with the aim of delivering stimulating and creative play opportunities to the whole age range.

The structured activity programme takes the form of at least two supervised creative activities per day. This may be cooking, sewing, art activities, clay work, fabric painting, paper craft, puppet making etc. These activities are offered to all children but they have the choice whether or not to join in. In addition to the structured creative activities, children have free access to a wide range of creative resources that they can use as they wish.

When not taking part in structured activities, children can use any of the toys, games and equipment belonging to the club. These include table tennis, table-football, snooker, several computer consoles, construction toys, pretend play equipment, board games, books and videos.

In good weather the children have access to a range of outdoor play equipment. The club has a varied range of small play items such as balls, rackets and bats, hoops, plus larger items such as go-carts, scooters and ride-on toys. We also have use of the school play fort and climbing frames, basketball hoops and football goals.
