Introduction to the School Curriculum
Our curriculum is broad, balanced, differentiated and relevant to meet the needs of each individual. It is expected to be challenging, interesting and exciting. As St Fagan's we value our activity lead curriculum where every class has at least two educational visits a year. Years 3 and 4 have a two day residential course in Amelia Trust, and Glyncornel Environmental Centre in Llwynypia.
Year 5 have a venture week in Llangrannog or St Donat's Castle, and Class 6 go to Duporth or Hayling Island for their venture week. These off site experiences promote learning and life skills.
Teaching the curriculum effectively is our most important role as well as the development of each child in an all round way. We endeavour to construct a programme of activities and events with a range of enriching experiences that will help them appreciate sport, the arts, and value our traditional customs.
We take the maximum advantage of: The Museum of Welsh Life; The National Museum; Llancaiach Fawr; Caerleon; Techniquest; Cardiff Castle and Bay, Cosmeston; local churches and Llandaff Cathedral; immediate locality of the school, especially retail outlets.
A number of theatrical companies visit the school as well as musical ensembles and workshops with poets, authors and artists.
Charging
We are fortunate for the support of the Friends committee who subsidise most of the transport costs.
As we cannot finance these visits entirely from the school fund, we always ask for a voluntary contribution to cover the cost of other expenses, but if we fall well below the class total then the activity is cancelled.
Should any family be experiencing financial hardship, please contact the headteacher in order that we may make confidential arrangements to pay for the visit.
