Cherry Tree Primary School

About us

Cherry Tree is a group 2 co-educational school, which is situated on the southwestern fringe of Lymm. Opened in 1974, the building is of semi-open plan design allowing for flexibility in teaching arrangement. The school’s capacity is 210 children and we are usually full. The children, whose ages range from 4 to 11 years, are organised into seven classes. 15% of the pupils are currently on the schools internal Special Educational Needs register whilst two pupils have a statement of special educational need. 9 pupils come from homes where the first language is not English. 6 of the pupils currently receive free school meals.

Aims

The school prospectus states the following aims, which are all directed towards preparing each pupil for life beyond Cherry Tree School. They are concerned with developing standards, quality and efficiency in a caring environment.

Standards
  • To promote academic and aesthetic skills through the presentation of good quality work;
  • To recognise and provide for the needs and talents of each pupil to enable them to develop their individual potential;
  • To recognise and reinforce positive standards of behaviour as agreed by the entire school community.
Quality
  • To ensure that the curriculum includes statutory requirements and is appropriate, flexible and relevant for the intellectual, physical and imaginative development of each pupil;
  • To help children to develop a range of skills, think abstractly, gain information and form positive attitudes;
  • To sustain and improve the quality of our work by regular monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning.
Efficiency
  • To make the most efficient use of a variety of well planned and resourced learning experiences;
  • To make the best use of both human and environmental resources to develop the quality of education offered to the pupils;
  • Use the School Development Plan to focus resources and staff professional development towards pre-selected goals.
Ethos
  • To raise awareness of moral values and respect for the beliefs of others within a Christian ethos;
  • To foster self-reliance by building confidence within a secure and happy environment;
  • To develop a caring community which recognises equality of opportunity and fosters concern and respect for others.

Relationships between the School and its community are excellent. Parents are encouraged to share in their children's learning and the very active Parent/Teacher Association gives valuable support through a programme of fund raising and social activities. The Governing Body plays an active and supporting role in the organisation of the school.
