The over-riding aim of this school is to create a caring and supportive community dedicated to providing education of a high standard.

The community shall be one in which all children; staff, parents and governors work together and feel valued.

We will strive to provide quality learning experiences which match the individual needs of children, ensure progression and promote a positive attitude to learning.

Your children are the most important people in our school. We hope that their time here will be happy. We will strive to provide every child with the firm foundation necessary to achieve success now, in later stages of their education and throughout adult life.

You, their parents, are valued members of the school community and are welcome in this school.

Our mission

Our mission is to create a caring and supportive community, dedicated to providing  education of a high standard, where all children, staff, parents and governors work together and feel valued.

  •  Our first responsibility is to our pupils
  • We will provide appropriate quality learning experiences using a range of strategies and resources within a stimulating environment to ensure progression and a positive attitude to learning.
  • Parents are valued partners in their children’s education and are encouraged to play an active part in the life of the school. We will work with other professionals to benefit our pupils.  The views of all members of the school community will be respected.
  • Each child is unique and all children should be treated as individuals.  We encourage the development of children’s self esteem, promote a positive attitude to learning and an appreciation of the needs of others.  We want our pupils to enjoy and achieve and become valued and responsible members of the school and wider community.
  •  We will help children to stay safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a    positive contribution and prepare them to achieve economic wellbeing in the future.
  • We aim to develop children’s appreciation of their own culture and an awareness of and respect for the beliefs of others.
  • We will have high expectations of our pupils in terms of their behaviour and potential to achieve and adopt a positive solution focused approach.
  • We monitor all aspects of school life, seeking always to improve the service we provide

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Where a child is identified as having special educational needs (i.e. children who have significantly greater difficulty in learning than the other children in the group) parents are always consulted and kept fully informed of any special measures taken to meet the child's particular learning needs.

The Reading Recovery Programme gives individual help to any child who is beginning to have difficulties with reading and writing. On occasions, if children have needs that cannot be satisfactorily met within the normal classroom situation, we will call on the help of outside agencies such as the Cheshire Learning Support Service or the County Educational Psychologist.

During their final term at this school all pupils undertake Standard Task Assessments (tests for seven year olds).  The levels that are awarded on the basis of the Tasks, Tests and Teacher Assessments are as follows:-
Level W                    -        Not yet achieving targets for 6/7 year olds
Level 1 achieved      -        Working towards targets for 6/7 year olds
Level 2 achieved      -        Targets to challenge 6/7 year olds
Level 3 achieved       -        Developing beyond targets for 6/7 year olds
Level 4 achieved   -        Working well beyond the targets for 6/7 year olds                                                (exceptionally gifted)

SPORT

At Key Stage 1 the PE National Curriculum comprises gymnastics, games and dance. At this school swimming has also been included for pupils in Years 1 and 2. For approximately 18 weeks, a weekly swimming lesson replaces either the gymnastics or games lessons. The school receives no funding for this and parents are asked to make a contribution towards the cost. The swimming pool at Chester City Baths is used and the class is taught by a qualified swimming instructor and a member of the teaching staff. An annual sports/activities afternoon is held each summer.
