Our School

The School Motto "Together everyone achieves more"

The Building and Environment

The school was opened as an infant school on January 6th 1960. Our purpose
built nursery was opened in March 2001. Children between the ages of 3-7 years
attend the school.

Classes

We have 6 classrooms in the school and a nursery class attached. There is 1 double mobile unit that is currently used for small group work. Our field is bounded by mature trees that give us shade in the summer months and contains a hill and garden area. The nursery class have their own self contained outside facility.

A-Z Nursery Guide

Arrival

The main doors of the nursery will open at 9.00am /12 .45pm or slightly earlier if it is raining. You may come in with your child and make sure they are settled and happy. There will be a peg with your child's name and photograph on where they can hang their belongings. Their name card will also be hanging on their peg and this will need sticking onto the appropriate colour train. This enables us to see easily if your child is at nursery or not.

Book bags

You are welcome to purchase a book bag for your child from school. These are available from the office. A book bag will ensure that school library books and any letters are kept safe and dry.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Your child will be encouraged to talk and communicate in a variety of different situations with both adults and their peers. They will also be introduced to a variety of texts and words for them to enjoy and explore.

Creative Development

At nursery your child will be offered a multitude of opportunities to take part in creative activities. These will include art, design and technology, music, movement, dance and imaginative and role play activities. If you are able to collect such things as bottle tops, lolly sticks, foil and plastic containers, boxes etc. we will always receive them gratefully. Unfortunately, due to health and safety reasons we are unable to use toilet roll tubes.

Diet and food allergies

Throughout their time in nursery the children are offered a variety of snacks. It is important that we are aware of any special dietary requirements your child may have or foods they need to avoid. E.g. vegetarian.

End of nursery

At 11.30am or 3.15pm a member of the nursery staff will open the door at the rear of the nursery to avoid disturbing the main school, and will call your child to meet you. For your child's safety they will only be allowed to leave nursery with an adult who is known to us. Please inform us if they are to be picked up by anyone else. N.B. Please note that for health and safety reasons it is important that younger siblings stay away from the outdoor equipment stored at the rear of the nursery.

Holidays

You should have an up to date holiday list, if not, we will be happy to provide you with one. If you intend to take your child out of nursery for a holiday, please let us know.

Illness

If your child is absent from nursery due to illness, we would appreciate a phone call. (0161 439 4817)

Induction

When the new parents and children meeting is held you will be provided with information regarding your child's first few weeks in nursery. We like to offer your child the maximum amount of support when settling them into nursery which means a few shorter sessions with fewer children, allowing us to get to know both you and the children very well.
