Welcome !!!

Hello, My name is Mr Merrell, I am the Headteacher of Oldfield Brow.

Let me welcome you to our school. We are a small friendly school situated on the edge of Altrincham and surrounded by farmland. But I am sure that you would like to look around so please come with me and I will show you the school.

The staff at Oldfield Brow are very committed to providing the best experiences that can possibly be offered for every child.

The school's OfSTED report recognised this fact and commented that:
"the teachers know their children well and work hard in both their curriculum and management roles to make the school effective."

It's obvious to see that Oldfield Brow is a special type of school. It's a school that prides itself on its friendliness and warmth. All the children know each other and play together well. We've been described as a very caring school - so how do we make everyone feel so welcome and valued?

Let me tell you more…………….

At Oldfield Brow we believe that:

  • Small class sizes ensure that children learn better
  • Everyone is expected to do their best
  • Children should work in a simulating and enriching environment
  • Work should match a child's needs, regardless of ability
  • All children should work and play together with trust and respect for each other
  • Children should leave our school full of confidence and belief in their own abilities

Others say

Oldfield Brow Primary School is rightfully proud of its many achievements. But what do others say about us?

Well, recently we were singled out as the most improved school in the whole of England and Wales!

David Blunkett, Minister for Education, wrote to us and said:

"I am grateful for everything you have done over the last three years to achieve such a tremendous improvement."

As a result, we were featured in numerous newspapers and radio programmes with headlines such as:

We were thrilled and of course very proud. Graham Brady MP commented that:

"This is a tremendous performance for the teaching staff, the governors and the pupils at Oldfield Brow Primary School"

Whilst Chris Pratt, the director for Long Life Learning in Trafford said,

"This is a magnificent achievement for the teachers and pupils."

We were placed 2nd in the SATs league tables for the whole of Trafford.

The office for standards in Education went even further. They commented on the schools achievements being higher than both the national and local trends and noted that our achievements in Maths, English and Science were very high compared to the national average. We couldn't have done any better!

OfSTED inspected our school for four days and they noted:

"The school provides good education for its pupils"

and noted that amongst the school's many strengths were its:

  • provision and teaching in the nursery,
  • teaching in upper Key Stage 2,
  • relevant and well managed curriculum,
  • good provision for pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development,
  • good management and organisation.

If you couple this with the other exam successes we have had in at Manchester Grammar School, Altrincham Grammar School, North Cestrian Grammar School, Green Lane High School and Wellington High School, you'll know that when we say:

"Only the Very Best Will Do!"...............we mean it!
