I became headteacher in 1991 with a clear vision of the kind of school I wanted Romiley to be. Together with staff, parents and governors I set about implementing a vision which reflected what I believed to be sound educational principles and good community values. The basic aims, which still apply today, are as follows:
· The achievement of high academic standards for each individual based on the principle of “only your best is good enough.” That is, constantly challenging each child to give of their best.
· The development of a range of creative, musical, sporting and drama skills which develop life skills, self esteem and open up a range of opportunities.
· To develop a range of values such as truth, honesty and justice which are prized by all civilised societies.
· To encourage all children to give as well as receive from their local community in the belief that the future well being of society depends on children valuing their community and contributing to it.
It is only as the years have passed that I have realised that these are basically the values which the school has strived to uphold for the last 140 years. An annual report written by Mr Heathcote, the headteacher in 1936, clearly states his belief in the values listed above in ensuring the success of the children. These values never change and are as much a part of me as they are of the school. They are still aims to be strived for as we never reach perfection with such values. It is very reassuring to know that we are fostering that rich thread of continuity which our school has upheld and maintained in the life of Romiley village.
Much has been achieved but there is always more to do. Being headteacher of this school is never boring, often challenging and always rewarding. I invite you to make an appointment to see the school in action, meet the staff and feel the atmosphere.

The school is popular and has a good reputation in the community. In all but one of the last 10 years it has been oversubscribed. Academic achievement has been consistently high for many years compared with local and national results. Staff, governors and parents were delighted to receive School Achievement awards for both 2000 and 2001 cohorts. Two members of the teaching Staff have been recognised in two successive years as Teacher of the Year , North West and Highly Commended.
The school has a private organisation running a long established after school care arrangement. In September 2002 the same organisation started a pre-school playgroup facility . Since September 2005 a 40 place nursery unit has been open and is now successfully providing the full range of Foundation stage provision. Since September 1998 the PTA has become the Friends of Romiley Primary School to promote wider community involvement and this was successfully used in raising funds and support for the Romillennium Project.

Many children attend extra curricular activities-majority of children at KS2 attend at least one club and many two or more. Extra curricular activities include brass band, choir, recorders, ocarinas, football, rounders, basketball, swimming, judo, art club, netball, cricket, French, Spanish, dance, Ofsted stated that the Brass Band was of exceptional quality for a Primary School and outside were the school’s ambassadors in the community

- We aim to provide relevant learning experiences with sequencing, progression and continuity which enable children to meet the demands of the National Curriculum and beyond, where appropriate.
- Romiley Primary School strives to demand endeavour and ensure success from every child. We set our sights on every child leaving school each day feeling something positive has happened and ultimately moving on as hungry learners. Every child is expected and encouraged to perform academically to the best of his or her ability.
- We aspire that through friendship and loyalty children should value others and their needs. We strive to encourage respect for all others, children and adults, property, the law and the environment. The future well-being of society depends upon fostering a caring and responsible approach to both the community and the environment.
- Our purpose is to build each child’s self-esteem, self confidence, self motivation, self discipline, self expression and independence and in so doing foster enthusiasm for new experiences. In a rapidly changing world we wish to develop children’s critical faculties and coping strategies to deal with the unfamiliar.
