Message from the Headteacher

A very warm welcome, to you and your child, from everyone at Torkington Primary School.

We aim to offer a happy and stimulating environment where your child will thrive and achieve to the best of their abilities. We believe that by offering a rich, broad and balanced curriculum we will engage and inspire the children. We will also encourage your child to be creative and inventive. We believe that one of the best gifts we can give a child is a real belief in themselves, so they will be happy to take risks and face new challenges with confidence.

We believe that home/ school partnerships are an essential part of ensuring achievement and success and we look forward to working with you for the wellbeing of your child.  There will be many opportunities for you to take part in the life of the school, perhaps at social events or helping out in the classroom and we hope you will take advantage of them.

We hope you will be very happy as part of our school; that you and your child will make many new friends and enjoy your time with us.

School Aims

Torkington is a happy, welcoming school where all pupils, and the adults who work with them, are respected and cared for. We believe it is important to develop the whole child as an independent learner and to equip the children with the skills and knowledge necessary for life in a changing world.

We will:-

bullet

Provide a secure and supportive learning environment where we expect  children to  achieve to the best of their ability. We have high expectations and work hard to ensure the highest standards and success, in the widest of senses.

bullet

Provide the children with teaching of the highest quality. Our staff care about the learning of each child. They are encouraged to update and develop their own skills and expertise. We want our school to be a true centre of learning, which is enriched through supportive partnerships with parents, governors and the wider community.

bullet

Work hard to remove any barriers to learning. All members of our school team are committed to developing an inclusive community where all are valued and everyone’s voice is heard, regardless of sex, race, religion or disability.  We believe in equal opportunity for all.

bullet

Work hard to ensure that individuals can feel safe in our school, both emotionally and physically. We are aware of the needs of individual learners. We aim to help the children develop self discipline and will not tolerate bullying in any form.

bullet

Provide a vibrant, balanced curriculum, where there is a real sense of fun and joy in learning. We know that children will learn best when there is meaning and relevance in what they do and aim to incorporate practical activities, when appropriate, within our lessons.

We hope that the children who attend our school will develop into confident young people who have a good attitude towards their learning, who are able to co-operate and communicate well with others, who can behave responsibly and who take pride in their achievements, and those of others.
