Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Governing Body, it is my pleasure to welcome you and your family to what we are sure will be a happy and educationally beneficial time at Well Green School.

The Governors take their responsibilities very seriously, and work closely with Mrs Markham making decisions about how this school can successfully meet its challenges, and we ask for your support in our endeavours.

We believe that successful education is the result of a positive home/school partnership, and we assure you that at all time the decisions we make will reflect our aim of trying to meet the needs of all the children.

We are all very proud of the achievements of our school. We all try hard to ensure that all the children receive the best education possible and at the same time are able develop positive personal and social life skills.

The governors and staff look forward to working with you, to maintain and further develop the Well Green's standards of achievement and high level of care given to each child.

Well Green Primary School is a caring, supportive school, which strives for excellence in everything. We pride ourselves on our high standards of teaching and learning. Our children enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum with secure foundations in the basic skills. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to work in partnership with school in furthering their children’s learning and wider development.

Well Green has very high expectations in all aspects of school life, including behaviour, relationships, attendance and standards of work. There is a commitment by all to foster a happy and safe environment where children feel confident to learn. Everyone is valued at Well Green. Each child is treated as an individual, and together we are responsible for enabling them to achieve their individual targets and reach their potential.

The staff of Well Green Nursery would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm and friendly welcome to all new children, parents and carers. We hope that your child will settle happily and enjoy their first experience of school. We also hope that you will find us cheerful and approachable and look forward to developing a successful partnership.

For many children this will be their first experience away from home and we endeavour to make this transition a smooth and happy one whilst also providing a stimulating learning environment.

This prospectus is intended to give a brief description of what we do and how, in order to achieve these aims. However, it does not convey the cheerful and busy atmosphere. To this end we invite you to visit the nursery and meet the staff and children at work.

The nursery is set in its own secure grounds on the edge of the school field. It is a purpose built unit for 52 part time or full time equivalent places for children of three to four years of age.

There is a separate prospectus for the primary school, which is available from the school office.

When children enter the nursery they do so having had a unique variety of experiences and having reached different levels of development and confidence.

Our aims in nursery are:

  1. To ensure that children feel welcome, safe, happy and enjoy coming to school.
  2. To provide children with a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum and to promote their social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
  3. To provide a curriculum which is relevant and enjoyable to the children and which draws on their own experiences.
  4. To provide a secure, caring atmosphere in a stimulating environment where children can become confident, happy and responsive and able to achieve their maximum potential.
  5. To provide an interesting environment where children are stimulated and motivated to learn and have the confidence to fail.
  6. To provide structured, practical first hand experiences encouraging the children to explore, discover and investigate and develop concentration and perseverance.
  7. To develop independence, confidence and self-discipline. To enable them to initiate their own activities and make choices.
  8. To value each child as an individual.
  9. To create close partnerships with parents
  10. To enable the children to make a successful transition to the Reception class and the beginnings of a more formal approach to learning.
  11. To create close links between nursery and reception classes and to ensure that there is continuity and progression between the two.
  12. To provide all children, irrespective of age, ability, gender, class or culture with equal opportunities for learning and reaching their maximum potential.

Well Green Primary School

‘This is an outstanding school. Achievement is outstanding. This is a result of outstanding teaching, which enables all pupils to learn at a very rapid rate. Pupils feel very safe and well cared for.’

The staff of Well Green Primary School extend a very warm welcome to all new children coming to our school and hope that the time they spend here will be happy and rewarding. We also wish a warm welcome to you, as parents and carers, for you are the most important people to your children and we hope that you will become involved in the life and work of the school. Your support and cooperation are vital if we are to create a warm and purposeful learning environment for your child.

Going to school for the first time is a very big step in a child’s life and this booklet is designed to make that step a little easier, for it will tell you briefly what we aim to do in our school, how you can be involved and how we can support you. It isn’t possible to convey every aspect of our school in the prospectus and, therefore, we warmly welcome visits to the school to see our children in the classrooms and meet our staff.

Well Green opened in 1965. It is a one-form entry school for children aged 5-11 years. We have a purpose built, 52 place nursery which is set in its own grounds on the edge of the field. There is a separate prospectus available for this and further information may be obtained from the Nursery Teacher or the Headteacher.

At Well Green Primary School great emphasis is placed on the individual development of each child, academically, socially, physically and morally in preparation for their present and future lives. We strive to develop the full potential of each child through a broad and balanced curriculum, fostering self confidence and creating an atmosphere where everyone is valued,

We aim to:

  1. Raise levels of attainment for all pupils, enabling them to achieve their personal best;
  2. Develop confident, disciplined and enquiring learners, able to make informed choices;
  3. Improve the quality of learning experiences offered to pupils;
  4. Foster a love of learning;
  5. Foster self-esteem and personal responsibility, linked to respect for the needs and feelings of others;
  6. Facilitate considerate and positive relationships between all members of the school community;
  7. Ensure equal opportunities in relation to gender, race, class, special needs and belief;
  8. Value and respect all cultures;
  9. Provide a safe and happy work place;
  10. Promote a thoughtful attitude towards the immediate and wider environment;
  11. Provide an agreed focus for monitoring the curriculum and learning environment;
  12. Establish an agreed range of practice in respect of teaching and learning.
  13. Ensure that more able pupils are provided with an appropriate challenging, stimulating and enjoyable education based upon high teacher expectations.
  14. Provide the children with opportunities to develop their specific skills and talents.
