The young people who attend Werneth School today are growing up in a rapidly changing world, which is very different from that experienced by most adults. It is important that all students become independent learners who are flexible and able to embrace change. It is likely that they will take on many different roles throughout their working lives as the work place changes and the idea of a job for life is replaced by a more modern lifestyle in which many can expect to have different careers throughout working life.
The ability to learn new skills becomes very important and students need to understand that they will work in an international context where their economic success is dependent on things that take place throughout the whole world. They must be able to understand and work with people from all over the world if they are to enjoy success themselves. At Werneth, through our impending bid for specialist school status, we will actively develop our curriculum and the school environment to take this on board.
A great strength of our school is the warm, friendly atmosphere, which is always noticed by our visitors. Staff and students alike recognise the importance of a safe and secure school in which they can support one another and work to the best of their ability the whole time they are here. We cherish this dearly and want our students to be happy and successful. We want them to be the best they can in their studies and participate in some of the many extra curricular activities our dedicated staff offer every day. We believe they will be responsible citizens as adults and proud of their achievements.

We are delighted to outline to you the Werneth Way of Life.
The school motto, 'Werneth Cares', indicates that we are a learning community committed to achieving high standards in all aspects of school life; indeed we have recently decided to emphasise this in a school vision statement which reads:
High Standards though improved learning for all.
By working with you in partnership we intend to build on the substantial progress made in recent years so that your child fulfils his or her potential both in and out of the classroom.
We organise several meetings for parents from our feeder primary schools during the Autumn Term and we look forward to meeting you then.We are a Community (11-16) comprehensive co-educational day School. The admissions policy is that of Stockport LEA who will provide details on request. Parents have a right to appeal against a decision not to admit their child to the school of their preference.
The original school buildings came into use in 1941, and several additions and extensions have been added over the years. Specialist provision is available for all subjects. There are extensive playing fields, an all-weather pitch, two gymnasia, a Sports Hall, good laboratory accommodation, extensive Technology workshops, computing facilities, modern maths facilities and a well stocked School Library and Resource Centre. The environment is well-cared for and the grounds and accommodation undergo a planned maintenance programme. There is the equivalent of 81 full-time teachers and 70 support staff, including Learning Support Staff, Learning Support Assistants, Learning Mentors, pastoral support assistants, site manager and caretakers.
Pupils are placed in mixed ability forms for Registration purposes, but are divided into "sets" of similar ability for teaching purposes in the majority of subject areas.
