On behalf of the Governors, staff and pupils, may I introduce you to the school through our website. This should give you a flavour of school life and outlines our expectations for our children and what you should expect from us.
Woodheys Primary School is a very special school with an outstanding reputation which is founded on our mission statement:
"We all approach each task with the words of our school motto in mind, 'Together Everyone Achieves More'. Their effect is reflected in the dedication of the staff and the achievements of the children and support of parents."
Our staff are exceptionally caring and experienced and work hard to ensure that each child reaches his/her full potential. Children thrive on the positive atmosphere at the school and take advantage of many opportunities made available to them. We offer activities to fill the needs of all abilities and interests.
We believe that happy children work to fulfill their potential and we place high emphasis on achieving this through close links between home and school and fostering a caring and secure environment in which children can prosper. Our aim is to work in partnership with all parents and we will always be pleased to meet with you to discuss your child's education further.
This school welcomes each child to be part of a community in which all concerned endeavour to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment.
We are an internationally recognised school for our Environmental activities. As an Eco School, we have been involved with the WWF and the Global Sustainable Cities projects. We have installed Solar Panels with Government Grants and have numerous ongoing Energy Efficiency/Environmental Projects, including the construction of two 'Outdoor Classrooms' for curriculum work (including science activities) and for the general enjoyment of our children!
During Local Democracy Week, our Eco School Council were representatives at a Young People's Conference. Our focus for development is to enable our 'children in today's world', to have confident voices to be able to express their opinions and personal feelings about important Global Issues which affect children all over the planet. Open debate, Circle Time and Philosophy for children ('P4C'), all feature in our planning. This project will 'come to life' if our pupils, using technology, can discuss issues with their peers within Europe and Africa.
We came first in the country out of 400 schools, to win £8,000 in the 'David Bellamy Award for Environmental Cleanliness', This prize enabled us to establish a pond and wild area for further experimental work. As one of our main areas for improvement, (AFI) is our Global Links and we already have links with schools in Durban, South Africa through the 'Afritwin Project', we would like to now work with schools in Europe. Our ethnicity percentage is now 35.7% and our whole ethos as a school is to educate children to be pro-active Global Citizens of the future.
"We have been awarded Fast Track Status" which means that we are an excellent training ground for high quality and ambitious teachers.
Centre of Leading Practice in the Foundation Stage.
Trafford has recognised the exemplary Foundation Stage department at Woodheys. We share our good practice with many visitors from within Trafford and further afield. After the installation of our award winning Eco-designed Outdoor Classroom for our Foundation Stage, Trafford have continued to use us as an 'On-site training ground' and we are delighted to support colleagues in this way.
At Woodheys we believe that the early years in the Foundation Stage are crucial in a child's development. In our Nursery and Reception classes the children learn key skills, such as, speaking and listening, concentrating and learning to work together with both adults and with other children.
Our children are given the opportunity to experience the very best start to their education, establishing solid foundations on which they can build.
Using highly experienced teachers, recognised by Trafford Education Authority for their expertise and specialist knowledge, confirms the school's commitment to giving this area of the educational spectrum a distinct identity.
The high quality provision, already enjoyed by the children inside the building, has now been extended to the outside environment. This is an area to which young children are naturally drawn. Our extensive redevelopment of the existing surrounding means that every day, children in the Foundation Stage have the space, freedom, fresh air, time and resources to work at their current interests within a safe and secure setting.
