Welcome to the Art room.
Art is a powerful and very individual communication tool for our pupils. Through artistic media Priory Woods pupils can express their understanding of the world around them and their own internal world. Art combines the development of ideas and concepts with the exploration and education of feeling, thus helping to educate the 'whole' child, emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially. Individual responses and diversity are celebrated as there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to create a piece of work.
Priory Woods pupils, in particular can gain confidence and a feeling of self worth. A child's work be it a drawing or a junk model stands as a unique form of communication. For some pupils, sensory exploration and development will be the most important criteria.
Art supports and enhances many areas of the curriculum. It is essential that the development of the individual's artistic pursuits be seen in the long term. Priory Woods pupils should leave school whenever possible with the desire to be artistically creative in their own lives. To this end the Art Programmes of Study will be an important part of the education and development of our pupils.
