The building is of a very modern design with enclosed areas creating spacious classrooms. There are eight main teaching areas in the main building, along with a purpose built ICT suite, and a Music/Drama area. There is a large, well-resourced library, containing a wide range of fiction and non-fiction material. There are considerable resources in each classroom area for technology, religious education, literacy and numeracy.

General Information

Our school is a Church of England Primary School for boys and girls between the ages of three and eleven years. Children are admitted into the Reception Class as 'rising fives' twice a year. Those children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and 28th/29th February will be admitted at the beginning of the academic year in September. Children whose birthdays fall between 1st March and 31st August will be admitted in January each year. All part time education before admittance into the Reception Class takes place in the school's Nursery class. Together these two Year Groups (Nursery and Reception) are now termed the ‘Foundation Stage’.

Aims of St Francis of Assisi Church of England Primary School

St Francis of Assisi Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School is part of the Church of England and maintained by Stockton Borough Council. We work in close harmony with St Francis of Assisi Parish Church and York Diocese.

  1. We will create a safe and secure Christian environment where all may achieve their full potential and feel a sense of pride in their own achievements and the achievements of others. All this in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
  2. We will provide an excellent broad and balanced education to inspire and motivate pupils of all abilities and establish a basic structure for life long learning.
  3. We will value all members of the school community as unique individuals and work together according to the Christian Gospel, and will celebrate the diverse nature of our community.
  4. We will nurture self-respect, courtesy, good manners and a caring attitude towards other people, the local environment and the wider world.
  5. We will develop and maintain a positive and fulfilling partnership between children, parents, teachers and all others working within the school.

Admissions Policy

We will consider applications in line with the conditions listed below, in the following order of priority.

  1. Pupils who have a statement of Special Needs that specifies the school.
  2. Children, whose parents live in the Parish of Ingleby Barwick, are active worshippers at St Francis of Assisi Parish Church, and are on the electoral roll of this Church. Evidence will be required.
  3. Children, whose parents live in the Parish of Ingleby Barwick and are active worshippers of a Church, which is a member of Churches together in England. Evidence will be required.
  4. Children who have exceptional needs on social, medical or religious grounds. Supporting letters from the Medical Health Officer, or a hospital Consultant, or the Director of Social Services or a Minister of religion (stating how often the family attend worship) are required and must be included with the application form in a sealed envelope.
  5. Children who have a sibling already attending the school when they are due to start under categories 1-4 or 6.
  6. Children living in the school’s admission zone.
  7. Any other applications.

Should the school become over subscribed within any category priority will be given to children living closest to the school. Distance will be measured from school to home along the safest walking route. A place in Nursery does not guarantee a place in the Primary School. All applications must be submitted on the pro-forma form, which is available from the Stockton Education Office in the first instance. Submission of the application form will not necessarily guarantee your child a place at St Francis of Assisi Voluntary Aided Primary School.

School Clubs

We are very fortuanate at St Francis of Assisi Primary School that we are able to offer a number of extra curricular school clubs.

The clubs are run primarily by dedicated members of the teaching staff, however some activites such as the 'Dance Club' and the 'Middlesbrough FC Football Coaching Course' are run by external organisations that come into our school and deliver these great activities.

The clubs take place in the school lunch hour and after normal school hours. Please click on a link on the left to find out more about each of our school clubs and view pictures of them in action.
