Welcome

A very warm welcome to the Brownlow Integrated College web-site. This is a school which believes in integration in practice. It is a core aim of this school community to make every effort to take the fear out of differences; celebrate the diversity within the staff and pupil body and employ such variety as a positive resource.

The plurality of the communities which make up the borough of Craigavon is reflected at any given time in our school population. Integration for us means all communities, all abilities and all socio-economic backgrounds working and learning together. We will continue our efforts to create an inclusive school

History

Brownlow Integrated College is a controlled Integrated Secondary school catering for pupils from all creeds and abilities from 11-16 year old. It was opened in September 1973 as Brownlow High School and became Brownlow Integrated College in September 1991 after a parental ballot had agreed to transform its status to that of a controlled integrated school.

The school currently has 410 pupils on roll, Mr E J Lemon is our current Principal, and Mr A Downard is our (acting) Vice Principal. We have twenty-six full-time teaching staff and four part-time teaching staff.

Our Aims

The school is fully committed to the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education Statement of Principals in relation to working towards a balance between the two communities on the Board of Governors, Staff and amongst pupils.

The school believes in "Quality in the Community" and it aims

  • to educate together the sons and daughters of the Protestants and Catholics and those of other and no religious beliefs, on a basis of equality, in an environment of tolerance and mutual respect;
  • to have a balanced intake of pupils of the Catholic tradition and of the Protestant tradition;
  • to ensure through curricular and extra-curricular provision that each pupil understands, respects and appreciates the religious and cultural traditions of others;
  • to give full recognition to the interest and responsibility of parents in the education of their children by encouraging and promoting the active participation of parents in the life and work of the College and
  • to develop good relationships with other Catholic and Protestant schools and with the local churches and community.
