Our ethos and values
Head Teacher’s Vision
for Cockerton to maintain and build on its high academic standards, and to underpin its development with the Christian values it promotes. I see Cockerton as growing into a school where children not only become literate and numerate, but where they appreciate and develop creativity; where they acquire the skills to harness the benefits of technology; where sporting talent is nurtured; where pupils develop spiritually; where they demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and where they are challenged to learn more. To accomplish this vision, my aim is for parents, staff, pupils and the wider community to work in partnership to support learning.
School Mission Statement (Formed by the staff and governing body) – Cockerton Church of England Primary School: learning, caring and growing together. We will provide a quality education for life, developing and building on a Christian foundation for each individual in a growing, committed, challenging and professional environment, which is joyful and is life itself.
Ethos Statement – recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop the religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church at parish and diocesan level.
The school aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers all its pupils.
Statement of Aims
the school aims to:
raise standards by effective teaching and learning, whereby all individuals feel accountable and motivated by the school’s success; provide challenging work through high, yet realistic expectation and aims to enjoy an effective partnership with parents, who are kept fully informed about their children’s progress and how they too can assist their child’s progress; teach the ‘whole child’, developing aesthetic, creative, spiritual, moral, social and cultural experiences, whilst preparing the pupils for later life. The school’s effectiveness will be kept under rigorous review to ensure that Cockerton Church of England Primary School provides very good value for money.
Home/School Agreement – this states expectations of the school, the family and the pupil. This is an extremely useful and purposeful document because it values the partnership of the staff and the family ‘learning, caring and growing together’ for the benefit of everyone involved.
Clothing – parents are requested to send their children in practical, sensible clothing clearly named. School uniform is not compulsory but parents are asked to bear in mind the school colours of maroon and sky blue when buying clothes. Parents are sent order forms at the beginning of each term, in addition to various items of clothing bearing the school logo being stocked in the office.
School PE kit is a maroon t-shirt with black shorts. Pupils must bring a change of sensible footwear for PE, i.e. well-fitting plimsolls for indoor use and trainers for outdoor lessons. For safety reasons, jewellery is discouraged and children will be asked to remove it for PE lessons and swimming. |
