cockton_hill_infants school

Our school philosophy is to provide our children with the best possible all-round education in a safe caring and loving environment. We hope to lay good foundations for future learning so that our children can become full and active members of society. Our school is a happy, busy place where we encourage all to feel welcome, and we actively encourage parental participation and co-operation in the educational process.

We regard ourselves as a loving, caring and sharing school.

We are an Creative Partnerships Associate School

Aims

1. To develop knowledge and understanding of the historical, geographical, cultural, political and economic circumstances which have led to the diversity of civilisations within the world.

2. To encourage respect for the cultural, linguistic and religious diversity in the world.

3. To enable children to counter bias in all forms by enabling them to develop informed views and opinions.

4. To develop children’s awareness and understanding of their position as active citizens in the United Kingdom, within Europe and in the wider, world through knowledge of the interdependent opportunities, rights and responsibilities this involves.

5. To be aware of and appreciate different languages and cultures.

6. To become tolerant and understanding, courteous, curious and assured in the company of people from their own and other cultural backgrounds.

To deal with the rapidly accelerating pace in today’s world, and feel secure in the knowledge that their abilities, skills, learning, qualifications and potential contributions will be recognised and valued across international boundaries.

Objectives

1. To identify opportunities for developing the International Dimension throughout the curriculum.

2. To make contact with citizens of other countries through staff visits, class links, and working with foreign nationals in the classroom.

3. To provide experiences using a variety of media, which facilitate understanding of current developments, including such things as e-mail, the World Wide Web, magazines, newspapers and videos.

4. To provide opportunities to learn about business links with Europe and the world where appropriate.

5. To identify a member of staff with responsibility for co-ordinating and supporting the work of staff in developing the International Dimension.

cockton_hill_infants schoolThe Governors and staff of Cockton Hill Infants’ School appreciate the value of an International Dimension in the school curriculum and its benefits for the wider experience of our children. We wish to provide our children with an appreciation of the richness and diversity of other cultures and prepare our children to live and work in an ever changing world. Such celebration of the cultural and ethnic diversity represented in the School and Local communities will develop self-confidence, respect for others and a better understanding of the complexity of international inter-dependency
