The Early years "Getting Along" Project

Good social emotional and behavioural skills are important for all children.

The " Getting Along" project aims to help children to develop these skills through a serious of activities and games.

We have begun this programme in Nursery with the support of Mrs Watts (Project Worker)

We hope that by participating in this project it will lead to improvements in learning and behaviour and give our Nursery children the skills that will give them the best possible start when they transfer school

Activities and Experiences for the Spring term

Our main topic this term is:-

TRANSPORT

We will be finding out about:-

  • Different types of transport

  • Emergency vehicles (visits from Police and Fire Brigade)

  • Road Safety

  • Traffic counts-on school site and in local area

  • Role Play-bus, fire engine, garage

  • Transport rhymes and songs.

In addition we will also be doing work on:-

WINTER & SPRING
WEATHER
MELTING & FREEZING
COLOURS
(black & white, red, orange, green)
SHAPES
(circle, heart, oval)
MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE
(big/little tall/short)
EASTER

These activities give you a brief indication of the work that your child will cover over the next term.  If you would like further information about the curriculum or the "Getting Along project" please see Mrs Cox

Our Most Recent Events

BUILDING WORK

At present there is a lot of building work going on around the school. It is all very exciting for everyone.  The Nursery have been recording what has been happening and are in the middle of making a book about it.

TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

The classes got together in a technology workshop to share their ideas about winding mechanisms.  It was good to share our skills, help each other and talk about our work.

SCHOOL GROUNDS WEEK PICNIC

Parents try their hand at the bird identification quiz at the School Grounds Week picnic.

ALNWICK GARDENS

During the summer term, the whole school visited Alnwick Gardens. Everyone thought it was one of the best trips.
It was very hot, but the fountains kept us cool.

We discovered a huge range of plants and flowers, including ones we had never heard of.  Most of the gardens were symmetrical and we had fun designing our own gardens as well.

Most of us agreed that the Tree house was the coolest tree house we had ever seen and wouldn’t mind one of those in school.
