Our school caters for children aged 4 to 11 years. We are a popular school at which the numbers have consistently risen during the last few years. At the time of printing we have 148 pupils on roll.

The present building, with its recently extended Foundation Stage classroom, occupies a large attractive site with extensive playing fields, a yard and gardens. There is a wild life area, the Millennium Wood and a Quiet Garden

Area which was initiated as a Design Technology project in 1997 and was successful in winning a County Durham Environmental Award in 1999.

More recently, other outdoor play areas have been created to enhance the outdoor facilities even more. The school is currently undertaking a large scale redevelopment of the grounds.

There are six classrooms on site, carpeted and well equipped with modern furniture. These rooms are situated either side of a large airy hall which is a multi purpose space for assemblies, performances, lunches, PE and some group lessons too. The school has its own kitchen to provide school meals and recently refurbished office areas. The School Office deals with all the administration and is the first point of contact for new parents. School has an adequate security system in place to safeguard both staff and children whilst in the building.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

If a child is unable to attend school please inform the school office by telephone or in writing on the first day of absence, An indication of the nature of the absence is also required otherwise this constitutes an unauthorised absence, which must be reported to the LEA.

The whole system of attendance operates electronically so you need to appreciate that even late arrival can trigger a recording of non attendance and when attendance records are checked at LEA level ‘lateness’ can be queried.

Attendance in Staindrop CE Primary school is very good (on average 96.5%) with very few unauthorised absences. We appreciate parental support in this.

Annually, in January, parents receive Holiday Vouchers from a travel company trying to support parents who endeavour to take their holiday within the allocated school holiday periods. We take this opportunity to respectfully remind all parents that permission for time out of school must be sought and that each request will be dealt with on an individual basis.

SCHOOL DRESS

The wearing of uniform is encouraged. All items of clothing should be permanently

labelled with the child’s name.

The uniform consists of:

Navy Fleece Jacket

Navy sweatshirt, sweater or cardigan.

Navy/Grey trousers or shorts, skirt or pinafore dress

Pique Navy dress/jade/blue gingham

Jade Green polo shirt

Sensible shoes

Fleece jacket

Waterproof reversible fleece coat

PE Uniform— see details below

Jeans are not considered suitable. Please request an order form from the School Office.

A small stock of Sun Hats, PE Kit bags , Book Bags and Backpacks all bearing the school logo, are held in school and can be purchased from the school office. Children will need to bring in appropriate clothing for Physical Education. For

Indoor activities this would be shorts and a t-shirt, but for outdoor games, a tracksuit plus trainers will be required. All children should have a clearly marked drawstring

bag for all their P.E. clothing. For swimming children need swimming costume, hat and towel. Jewellery should not be worn in school. We discourage the piercing of ears at

Primary School age, as injuries associated with the wearing of earrings can be very serious. Only small ear studs are acceptable for up to the 7 weeks following piercing. Following this period ear rings are not allowed. Earrings must be able to removed by the child for P.E. games and swimming.
