St. Mary's Primary School is a Catholic, co-educational primary school situated in the village of Cargan approximately ten miles from Ballymena. It provides an education for children between the ages of four and eleven.

The school was founded in 1875 and has continued over the years to provide an education for the children of the village and outlying area. At present the school has a staff of four full time teachers including the Principal. Total enrolment is eighty seven pupils.

We the Governors and staff of St. Mary’s Primary School believe the school to be a vital part of the Catholic community. We are firmly committed to:

  • The aims of Catholic Education

  • Providing effective education for all our children

  • Developing positive pastoral care systems in our school

  • Establishing close links with the home, the parish and the wider community

St. Mary’s Primary seeks to establish an educative community, centred on Christ so that his values and gospel message pervade the whole life of our school.

At St. Mary's Primary School we have put a number of policies into practice to ensure the wellbeing of all of our pupils. Our policies cover a wide range of issues, including bullying, discipline and Internet use.

Internet Policy

This policy covers the procedures in place within the school to ensure the safe use of the Internet in school as a valuable educational tool. Parents have the choice of allowing their child(children) to use the Internet or not and also whether their child's(childrens')work and photo may be included on our Internet site.

Child Protection

Our Child Protection policy provides an overview of the procedures in place which ensure the safety of all the children in our care. Also included is an outline of the procedure to be followed if a case of child abuse is suspected.
