Budehaven Community School has existed  since 1973, having been formed from the former Bude Grammar School and Bude-Stratton Secondary Modern School. Since January 1991 the school has been on a single-site. A severe fire in 1999 destroyed much of the older buildings, but this was followed by a multi-million pound re-building programme, which was completed in 2002. Budehaven now boasts one of the most up to date schools in the region.

The school provides Secondary Education to the age of 18 for pupils of all abilities, traditionally taking children at age 11 from seven primary schools: Bude, Jacobstow, Kilkhampton, Marhamchurch, Morwenstow, Stratton and Whitstone.

Aims and Objectives of Budehaven School

Budehaven Community School aims to:

  • Create an active learning community of the highest possible quality
  • Provide a safe, caring and supportive school in which everybody is stimulated and encouraged to achieve success
  • Equip each student with a range of skills so that they can:
    • Make informeed choices
    • Make a positive contribution to the community in which they live

In order to achieve these aims we shall:

  • Promote high standards of teaching and learning
  • Promote responsibility and mutual respect
  • Develop a sense of pride in being part of Budehaven Community School
  • Ensure equality of opportunity and access to all aspects of school life
  • Promote and develop social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness
  • Promote awareness of, and respect for a sustainable environment
  • Work in partnership with parents and the wider community
  • Recognise and celebrate all achievements

The Pastoral System

The pastoral system is designed to provide a caring framework for each pupil. Support, help and encouragement are given to all pupils by their Form Tutors, who will see them daily, and Co-ordinators of Learning and Personal Well Being. The pastoral staff will oversee the general welfare of pupils in their groups.

The school endeavours to praise pupils who demonstrably follow the Budehaven Code of Conduct. The system of rewards is based on an electronic (E-Behaviour) scheme where pupils' achievements and attendance are recognised through the award of points which lead to special certificates and prizes.
