Welcome to GCS

Granville is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school situated in Woodville, Swadlincote and maintained by Derbyshire County Council.

We are proud of the way in which we have maintained our success over a long period of time. Our aim is to motivate all our students, regardless of their ability, to achieve their very best at school and to encourage them to continue their education after they leave us at sixteen. We work hard to create a well-disciplined but caring environment where all students can realise their potential. Our last Ofsted report was in 2000 and inspectors commented that: Standards are good because teaching is well planned, subjects are well taught and teachers have high expectations of students. Granville was subsequently listed in the Chief Inspector's Annual Report as one of the most successful schools inspected in that year, what became popularly known as a 'gold standard' school.
