Welcome to St Wystan’s School, Repton. We are an Independent school catering for children from 2 ˝ to 11, having recently celebrated 80 years of excellence in education. These pages are intended to give you a flavour of what we have to offer your child and we hope that it will encourage you to visit us in the near future.
The village of Repton enjoys a long tradition of high quality education. Set in the heart of the village, St Wystan’s School is very much part of that tradition. Through the school’s founder, Lady Fisher, wife of the then Headmaster of Repton School, the origins of St Wystan’s lie in the church and the support of traditional educational, social and cultural values promoted by the school and its staff.
The school is divided into four Houses, each with a Housemistress, whose concern is the pastoral, academic and physical development of the children in her care. The House system serves to reinforce and develop the qualities of courtesy and self-esteem, teamwork and leadership, a sense of responsibility and the pursuit of excellence.
St Wystan’s provides an all-round education with each child being valued as an individual. Academic standards are high and our aim is for each pupil to reach their full potential within a happy, friendly and vibrant atmosphere. The school is alive with the positive approach that we take towards teaching and learning. Pupils learn to work with concentration and enthusiasm whilst consideration, good manners and thoughtfulness for others are encouraged.
Please do take the opportunity to come and see our beautiful surroundings and experience our unique atmosphere. You can be assured of a warm welcome.
The Extended Day
At St Wystan’s we offer a range of childcare options before and after school to accommodate working parents, and also to give our pupils a full range of extra-curricular activities and clubs that they can attend. Pre-school care is available from 7.30am until 8.30am when the pupils then go to their Form rooms. After-school care is available from 3.45pm until 6.30pm and takes different forms depending on the age of the pupils and their interests. We run a popular homework session, supervised by teaching staff, for pupils in Years 4-6. For younger pupils the fully supervised after-school club takes place where they are able to read, draw, play games, play outside or watch TV. Older pupils may join after the homework session. These sessions can be on a full-time, regular or casual basis.
Extra Curricular Activities
We run a varied programme of clubs and activities both at lunchtimes and after school. Activities depend on the time of year, interest of the children and availability of facilities. There are clubs for all ages including art, keyboard skills, chess, yoga, drama, sewing and two choirs. Sports clubs include football, indoor golf, tennis and dance. At St. Wystan’s we firmly believe in providing opportunities and experiences for our pupils so that they may broaden their interests and develop new skills.
Holiday Club
St Wystan’s runs a Holiday Club during school holidays, as we understand that our term dates do not always coincide with other schools. Also, our working parents find it reassuring to know that their children are being cared for in a safe, secure and familiar environment. We run the club during the Summer, Christmas and Easter holidays depending on demand.
It is a well-staffed and well-resourced activity based club. Art and craft, drama and sporting activities are just some of the many sessions that children can take part in. The day is split into a morning and an afternoon session. Snacks and drinks are available at break times.
