Conifers Primary School
Radipole Lane, DT4 0QF Weymouth

The new 'Conifers Primary School' will be built between the current Infant and Junior Schools.

Pedestrian entrances will be at Quibo Lane and Radipole Lane with the main vehicular entrance from Radipole Lane. There will be new staff and visitor car parking.

Three junior-sized football pitches will be provided, one of which will be on the site of the present Infant School building, together with playground and tarmac outdoor games areas. Due to the limited site area available, the new school will be a two storey building. There will be two internal staircases and a passenger lift.

Classrooms will be arranged in pairs, each serving a year group of 60 children. There will be six bases at ground floor level and eight on the first floor. The youngest children will have their own designated area and facilities.

An inclusive base for pupils with Asperger's Syndrome will be provided in the new building, housed in purpose-designed ground floor accommodation.

The hall will be centrally situated, with a music/drama studio attached. The library will also be at the 'heart' of the building, adjacent to the entrance foyer, readily accessible to all the children. An Information Technology suite is to be provided at first floor level and the building will be wired to enable the networking of computers throughout the school.

We aim to work with you in partnership, in order to provide your child with a wealth of experience through a broad and balanced curriculum on which can be built the understanding and skills needed for life.

ADMISSION

Children have a statutory right to start school at the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday.  Children younger than the statutory age are admitted on a part time basis.  This is Dorset County policy.

All children are admitted to school in the September following their fourth birthday and will attend full time from the beginning of the spring term in January.

The school is organised on a class basis, with the children spending the majority, if not all, of the school day with their class teacher in the early years. A timetable is necessary for the use of the hall, television, library and ICT Suite.  Children will be taught individually, in groups and as a whole class depending upon the activity and the needs of each child.  Great emphasis is placed on the needs of the individual child who will develop and progress at his or her own pace, supported by members of staff in the most appropriate way.
