14 Children from years 5/6 took part in the pyramid Biathlon- results to follow
The school bus serves the children from Melplash and Netherbury. No transport, however, is provided for children living outside the catchment area.
The basis for deciding a child's entitlement to free transport is the distance from the child's home to the school, and varies with the child's age. In Dorset, the qualifying distances from school for free transport are as follows:
Children aged 5-8 years |
|
2 miles |
Children aged 8-16 years |
|
3 miles |
Spare seats in the bus are offered on a concessionary basis to children who do not qualify for free transport. It must be pointed out that the concession may be withdrawn at short notice by the Authority if
- the seat is required by another child entitled to free transport;
- a re-organisation of the transport provision reduces the number of concessionary places available.
The charge for concessionary seats may be found out by application to the school.
Children are not escorted on these journeys, so it is their responsibility to behave in a manner that is sensible and safe, and we ask parents to support and reinforce this.
With a primary age range of seven years (5-11 years) and four classes, it is not possible for each class to be composed of identically aged children. There are four distinct age groups:
