Painting of St Mary's First School, Charminster

'The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.'

Mr I Donnelly - Headmaster

Admission Arrangements

All children have a statutory right to be admitted to school at the beginning of the school term following their fifth birthday. In Dorset children may start school at the beginning of the school year in which they are five (the school year is from 1st September to 31st August). During their first term, the children attend on a part-time basis of five half days each week. Normally children then attend on a full-time basis of five days a week from January.
At the end of Year 4 our children transfer to a middle school. For those living in our catchment area this is usually St Osmund's CE (Aided) Middle School in Dorchester.

School Transport

Free transport to school is provided for children living in Frampton and Sydling St Nicholas. Places may be available on a concessionary basis for children living in Bradford Peverell, Charlton Down and Stratton. Please ask for further information from the School Office. It is extremely important for parents to make sure that their children understand that they must remain seated, wearing their seat belt and behave sensibly and quietly when using the school bus.

School Uniform

We have a policy for encouraging children to wear school uniform. We like our children to wear the following:

Boys Girls
  • grey trousers
  • yellow polo shirt
  • green sweatshirt with school logo
  • grey pinafore/skirt/trousers in the winter
  • green and white or yellow and white check dress in the summer
  • yellow polo shirt
  • green sweatshirt with school logo

The following items may be purchased from the school office;

  • green sweatshirts with school logo
  • yellow polo shirts with school logo
  • book bags
  • caps/beanie hats

Children will also need a t-shirt, shorts and plimsolls in a named bag for PE. These need to be in school every day.

Order forms for this uniform can be obtained from the office. Naming everything is essential!

Children receiving free school meals will also qualify for a clothing allowance. Please ask for an application form from the school office.
