About Our School
There has been a Catholic school in this area for over a hundred years. The present school of St. Joseph's is a fine, two-storey building, which was opened on December 2nd 1932.
Our school boasts a happy family atmosphere, which helps in the growth and development of the children in their first seven years of school life. If your children are happy to come to school, then learning is much easier.
Through this environment we want to produce happy, responsible, caring children, encouraging self-respect, respect for others, self-discipline and independence.
We aim to ensure an all-round development of the children, physically and intellectually but also spiritually, emotionally, socially and morally through an awareness of the individual child's needs and interests.
To achieve this aim and to foster parental partnerships it is important to have the cooperation of parents and for this reason we have formed a Parent/Staff Association. We implement the Council policy for Equal Opportunities and ensure that all pupils have access to the full range of educational experiences available within the resources of the school. We are a family firmly committed to the elimination of any form of discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender and disability.Parents seeking to enrol their child in St. Joseph's are requested to make an appointment with the Head Teacher or Depute Head Teacher.
During this appointment time parents meet with the Head Teacher/Depute Head Teacher and will then be given a tour of the school where they can also meet with staff and pupils.
Prior to admission to school in August, children are invited to spend either a morning or afternoon participating in the Primary 1 class activities with some of the new entrants while parents attend an information session with the Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, Parish Priest and other invited speakers. This usually takes place during the month of June and invitations are sent to parents. As most of our prospective pupils attend either Bellfield or Park Place Nursery Schools, they are brought along by the nursery staff prior to coming to school and also staff from St. Joseph's visit the nurseries. |
