Blackminster Middle School - Evesham

Hello, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Blackminster Middle School website. Our mission statement at embodies our approach and our ambition:

We strive to offer each individual child the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of success in whatever field their talent lies. Our specialist staff teach their subjects from KS 2 up to KS 3 level and beyond, therefore ensuring pupils can make maximum progress ready for transfer to High school. Our results over the last five years in the Y6 SATs have improved consistently but this has been achieved without losing the balance we feel is vital to a rounded curriculum.

As a school, we believe in offering the widest range of learning opportunities ranging from the traditional academic to sport and to the arts. Our school has received recognition for its provision by the award of "Sportsmark status", "Artsmark status" as well as the "Investors in People" award.

One of the foundations of our approach is to work closely with parents to provide each child with the right guidance and support to achieve success.

Parents and visitors are always welcome to come and see the school in action. If you wish to know more after visiting this website, contact us to make an appointment.

Best wishes

Mr T.M.S. Holland B.Ed (Hons) M.Ed.
Headteacher

July 2007 The Great Flood!

The last day of the old term witnessed a most unusual Annual Prize Giving ceremony. As the torrential rain lashed down, Guest of Honour Adam Thorne was handing out the pupils’ prizes. The ensuing floods meant that the school buses were cancelled and the school went into emergency mode as we tried to get all the youngsters home safely.

Parents and friends all lent a hand to get everyone home. In the latter stages only tractors and large vehicles could get through. The last pupil was collected at 5.45pm and then the staff had to try to make their way home. Several were stranded in Evesham for the night.

May I thank everyone (staff, parents and pupils) for the wonderful team effort which enabled the pupils to get home safely.

Mr. Thorne had been given the honour of presenting the prizes as he was retiring after ten years service teaching Maths. Also departing was Beccy Rose, taking up a post at a High school in Gloucestershire. Mr. Lampitt also left the school.

The year had seen a number of new staff arrive: Mr. Jacob taking over Science, Miss. Swindells taking over English and Mrs. Bell now leading Music. As from September Miss. Shattock will assume Mr. Thorne’s role in Maths. Mrs. Venter has now returned from maternity leave and we look forward to Mrs. Blakely returning in the new year. Also new in September we have Miss. Urch (PE) and Mr. Faughnan (History) starting as NQTs. In the Classroom Assistant team we have been joined by Mrs. Emsley and Mrs. Hartell. Mr. Green is the new ICT technician and Jan Mason the new PESSCO.

The school’s new middle management system came into being as from September 2007. Miss. Harris is now the Teaching and Learning manager and Mr. Nosworthy the ICT manager.

There is a fresh look to the staff room and the school is gearing up for what we hope will be another successful year at Blackminster.P.S. Africa Hope Choir. The school year began with a visit from Uganda of the Africa Hope School Choir. They spent the afternoon in school and then put on an exciting concert on Friday evening.

Blackminster was designated a County Middle School in 1975 when a three tier (first, middle and high schools) system of education was introduced in the Evesham/Pershore area of Hereford & Worcester.

The change over from it's previous role as a County Secondary School to it's present role as a 10+ to 13+ County Middle School was completed by 1977 and it is now one of four Middle Schools in the Evesham area. They are Bredon Hill and St.Egwin's whose identified high school is Prince Henry's, and Simon de Montfort and Blackminster whose identified high school is Evesham High.

a caring and safe environment suitable for learning

a broad and balanced curriculum

a wide range of opportunities including arts, sport and music

a comprehensive range of information to keep parents informed

individual guidance to ensure that all pupils can succeed at their own level

policy statements and information for all school community members
a structure for liaising with our feeder schools and high schools

an ethos which enables the school to work in harmony with the community

a warm positive reception so tat all visitors feel welcome and at ease

an education which will equip pupils for the challenges of life

Blackminster Middle School is situated in open countryside in it's very own pleasant 14 acre site gardens and playing fields. It serves the surrounding area and takes pupils on roll at the age of 10+ primarily from the village schools of Badsey, Bretforton, Cleeve Prior, Honeybourne, Littleton, Offenham and Pebworth.

We try to welcome all pupils to Blackminster Middle School but there have to be some limits on admissions. Our standard number per year group is 130. Beyond that figure each case is studied individually.

Every child in the County of Worcestershire is allocated a place at their nearest local school unless that school is full. Our pupils are drawn from our local village schools in Badsey, Littleton, Cleeve Prior, Offenham, Bretforton, Honeybourne and Pebworth. Pupils from outside those areas will be welcomed providing there is available space.

Priority is given to:

Pupils in catchment areas as set by the LEA
Pupils with siblings currently in the school

Pupils who have significant reasons for admission (medical, compassionate, etc.) The validity of which will be decided by the director of Educational Services.
