Welcome

The AO has been a centre of excellence in Worcester for the education of girls from 2½ to 18 since its foundation in 1883. The girls here enjoy a rewarding and challenging environment where they are prepared for a future where problem-solving and decision-making, healthy relationships, confidence and continuing learning are all vital to a fulfilling life.

The school is large enough to provide a wide range of opportunities both in and out of the curriculum, but it is small enough for everyone to cherish the family and community spirit and for each girl to enjoy individual support and attention. We hope that through this site you gain some sense of the energy, enthusiasm and ethos of our remarkable school.

This is the first step in finding out about the AO. As Headmistress, I look forward to meeting you and to working with you in partnership to provide the best educational opportunities for your daughter.

Morag Chapman, Headmistress

Admissions Procedure

The following information is set out to help the parents of prospective students understand the registration process, when expressing interest in a place for their daughter at The Alice Ottley School.

The Alice Ottley School welcomes applications from girls at any stage in their education and will be pleased to consider entry at any time in the academic year.

The Senior School

Following an initial enquiry by the parent, the Registrar will send out an information pack containing a copy of the Senior School prospectus, an Application for Admission form, as well as details about scholarships, bursaries, fees and any other relevant topics, by post to the parents.

Parents can then decide whether they would like to visit the School during one of our Open Mornings and/or arrange to have a tour of the School on a normal working day. An appointment with the Headmistress may be arranged by telephoning the Headmistress’s Secretary on 01905 27061.

During their visit to the School, parents/guardians will have an opportunity to meet with the Headmistress They will also be invited to complete and return the official Application for Admission form together with a Registration fee of £20.00, if they have not already done so. This document is merely an expression of interest for your daughter to join the School and will ensure that she is registered for entry. It does not, however, represent a guaranteed offer of a place. The £20.00 Registration fee (which is non-refundable) covers administration and the cost of assessment for each child.

All prospective students are encouraged to come and spend a ‘Taster Day’ in School prior to the entrance assessment, giving them an opportunity to experience ‘Life at The Alice Ottley School’. Your daughter will then be invited to attend an Assessment day, at which stage a report from her current school is requested.

Girls wishing to enter the Sixth Form must have achieved a minimum of five passes at GCSE (Grades A* – C). They will automatically receive a copy of the Sixth Form prospectus and be offered a tour of our Sixth Form Centre. An opportunity to attend the Sixth Form Open Evening, held in October each year, meet with Heads of Department and to shadow a Sixth Former for a day are also very important and integral parts of the Sixth Form admissions process.

If all goes well, and dependent upon place availability, parents will be sent a formal offer in writing. Completion of the Acceptance Agreement and payment of a £100.00 refundable deposit are required on acceptance of a place. If there are no available places, then your daughter’s name will be placed on the waiting list until such time as a place becomes available.

Should parents wish to defer entry, at any time, then the place will be held open until the next academic year, when your daughter will undergo another formal assessment.

Scholarships Awards are available to girls entering the Senior School at the age of 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Year 12); these examinations are held on a specified date in January/February each year. Our Admissions process does not allow for Scholarships to be awarded at any other time.

The Junior School

Following an initial enquiry by the parent, the Registrar will send an information pack containing a copy of both the Junior and Senior School prospectus, an Application for Admission form, as well as detailed information on fees and other relevant topics, by post to the parents.

Parents can then decide whether they would like to visit the Junior School during one of our Open Mornings/Afternoons and/or come on a normal working day. An appointment may be made by telephoning the School Registrar on 01905 27061.

During their visit to the Junior School, parents/guardians will have an opportunity to meet with The Head of the Junior School. They will also be invited to complete and return the official Application for Admission form together with a Registration fee of £20.00, if they have not already done so. This is merely an expression of interest for your daughter to join the School and will ensure that she is registered for entry. It does not, however, represent a guaranteed offer of a place. The £20.00 Registration fee (which is non-refundable) covers administration and the cost of assessment for each child.

All prospective girls entering the Junior School will be invited to come and spend a morning in School for assessment and will have the opportunity to spend time in lessons with our current pupils. Formal written assessments are introduced from Year 3 upwards. Where appropriate, a report will be requested from your daughter’s current School.

All being well, and dependent upon place availability, parents will be sent a formal offer in writing. Completion of the Acceptance Agreement and payment of a £100.00 refundable deposit are required on acceptance of the place. If there are no available places, then your daughter’s name will be placed on the waiting list until such time as a place becomes available.

Should parents wish to defer entry, then the place will be held open until the next Academic year, at which time your daughter will undergo another assessment.

Please note

Girls attending The Alice Ottley Junior School will gain automatic entry to the Senior School at age 10+ (Year 6) and will not be required to undertake formal entrance assessments for the Senior School at the end of Year 5.
