Welcome to Covingham Park Junior School. This brochure sets out some of the most important information about our school. It should be read in conjunction with the annual supplement, which is published every autumn. The two documents provide not only the information that we are required to publish by law, but also that which we believe is essential for parents wishing to find out more about our school.

We recognise however, that the written word can never truly convey the ethos or reality of a dynamic place such as a school. We are therefore more than happy for visits to the school by the parents/guardians of prospective pupils so that you may see for yourself what the school is really like.

The brochure is set out under a variety of headings so that you should be able to find out useful information as quickly as possible. Each section also indicates where further information may be found.

Our General Philosophy

At Covingham Park Junior School, we aim to provide a relaxed, happy and secure environment for our children in which they may develop and learn. We want to enable each child to develop intellectually, socially and emotionally but we recognise that in one individual these three aspects of development do not always take place at the same rate.

Whilst our classrooms and methods of working take account of individual growth rates, we aim to develop the children’s capacity to work and thrive within a group as well as their ability to work on their own. In the realm of games, whether physical, mental or educational, we recognise the elements of competition but we emphasise that winning only has value when achieved within a framework of rules, fairness and moderation.

All our staff, teaching and non-teaching, care for each individual child. By our own attitudes we encourage children to develop a high level of personal self-esteem and at the same time to value and care for each other irrespective of race, creed, colour or gender.
