Welcome to Kingsdown School.
I am delighted to introduce you to this vibrant, popular and oversubscribed 11-16 Technology College.
Every student is important to us and we have a reputation for caring about all our students and helping them to realise their full potential, ready for the world beyond school. In return, we expect students to show consideration for other people and to have a sense of responsibility towards other students and staff as well as our neighbours in the community that surrounds our school.
All our staff are highly qualified, experienced and dedicated to the development and progress of their students.
We are proud to be members of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust ‘Most Value Added’ Club for having some of the best GCSE results.
Kingsdown is a school where every pupil will be challenged to achieve their full potential, to respect each other, their community and environment, to enjoy school and feel safe.
A close relationship between home and school is essential and you will be very much a part of that important partnership. Together, we will work hard to make the next five years of your child’s life a happy, positive and fulfilling experience.
Kingsdown School became a Technology College in September 2003. It is a single site mixed comprehensive school for students who are between 11 and 16 years of age. There are about 1270 students in the school. Most of the students come from Grange Junior, Colebrook Junior, Ruskin Junior or South Marston Primary schools. Parents from other areas who wish to send their children to Kingsdown School should write to the school for an application form. Kingsdown School has been oversubscribed for several years. There are around 75 teachers at Kingsdown, many of whom are highly qualified academically and have had considerable experience teaching in comprehensive schools. There is a large support staff at the school.
Most subjects group students in ability sets. There is some mixed ability teaching. Students who have particular difficulties with learning are supported by Learning Support Teachers within the classroom and in small groups. The needs of the most able students are carefully met by our 'gifted and talented' programme.
A Thamesdown contract coach carries students from South Marston to and from School.
