In 2006 we saw the completion of a new KS1 block providing spacious classrooms, cloak rooms, state of the art computer suite and modern toilet facilities.
As part of our school improvement plan, we are continually striving to improve facilities thus providing the best possible learning environment for our students.
There is a very positive climate in the school with the whole staff working as a team towards our shared aims of helping each child fulfil their potential. Planning systems are in place and careful records are kept. There is a full programme of INSET training within the school and all staff are offered opportunities to take advantage of external professional development. The school was one of the first in Wiltshire to have the new format Ofsted inspection which was positive and the key issues identified are being or have already been met. The ethos of the school is a particular strength, with very good relationships between all members of the school community and pupils, who are interested in their work and are well behaved.
Our priorities for school improvement are to continue to raise standards in English, Mathematics and Science in both Key Stages with a view to improving achievement for all pupils. ICT will continued to be developed across all curriculum areas.
Number on Roll and School Organisation
Currently the number on roll is 240 although this will always vary as Larkhill has a high turbulence figure due to our position in the middle of Larkhill Garrison.
This year the class structure stands at one reception class, three classes in KS1 and four in KS2. There are between twenty-five and thirty four children in each class. The teachers are supported by Teaching Assistants and Parent volunteers.
The school employs a specialist Special Needs Teacher (SENCo) and there are several special needs teaching assistants who work alongside the teachers offering 1:1 support to children with particular difficulties. We also have a specialist Speech and Language practitioner who provides individual and group support throughout the week along with specialist behaviour and emotional support for children who require a little extra help. Currently 31% of our children require some kind of specialist SEN support.
The County Council manages admissions on behalf of the school. Applications for entry to the Reception class must be made to the County using their pre printed application form which is available from all primary schools and can also be completed on line at http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/primary-school-places.htm

During the term before your child starts school, he or she will be invited to come in and visit us on a number of occasions. We find that this helps to calm the inevitable nerves and makes for a more confident start in September.
In September we admit children according to their age. Children born between 01 September and 31 December attend school full time. Those born between 01 January and 31 August will attend school part time, either in the morning or the afternoon until January, after which they will attend full time.
There is a degree of flexibility in the above arrangements. If you wish to discuss this then please contact the school once you have accepted your place. Please note, however, that it is not possible to take children born between 01 January and 31 August in to school for any more than five half-day sessions per week in the autumn term. This is County policy and is out of the hands of the school.
Admissions at any other time must still be effected through Wiltshire County Council using the above site or obtaining a County Application form from the school.
