Aims

Our school aims that all pupils will:

  • be given an equal opportunity to reach their full potential academically and socially;
  • have their awareness of moral and spiritual values continually raised;
  • be encouraged to become independent learners equipped with the necessary skills for life;
  • be encouraged to have understanding, tolerance and a respect for the needs of others that can be shown through thoughts and deeds;
  • be able to demonstrate an increasing respect for their own and others possessions, developing an increasing appreciation and concern for their immediate and the wider environment.

Starting School

We want all our children to look forward to coming to school and really enjoy learning while they are here. An important objective in achieving this aim is to make sure that all parents feel secure and confident that the staff really care and want to do the best for your child. Foundation Stage staff have contact with all local playgroups throughout the year. During the Summer term before your child starts school induction meetings and visits are arranged for you and your child so that you get to know the staff and become familiar with the school routines.

Pre-school Parent Interviews

We invite all parents of children starting school to attend a consultation meeting with a member of the Foundation Stage staff. At this meeting you will be able to share with us information that will help us to settle your child into school and meet their unique needs. We hope all parents will take advantage of this opportunity. Appointments will be arranged during the induction meetings that are set up for parents during the Summer Term before your child starts school.

Information Evening

An information evening for parents is arranged soon after the children start school in September. We send more information about this meeting closer to the time. We would ask all parents to attend as this will include important information about your childs education. An evening meeting about Jolly Phonics, our approach to reading and writing will also be held in the Autumn Term and once again we would ask all parents to attend as you will have a role to play in supporting your child through the Jolly Phonics scheme.

Starting Times and Settling In

All children begin with two weeks of mornings only as a period of adjustment. Those children with birthdays on and between 1st April and 31st August will attend half days until January next year.

  • 8.45am Parents can take children to classes before school begins at 9.00am
  • 12 noon Please collect children from the classroom doors.

Once they begin full time please collect them from the playground at 3.15pm.

January Starters

If your child is starting school in January, you will still have the opportunity to meet staff and three pre-schoo1 visits will be arranged before Christmas.

Further information is available in the booklet Starting School which is available for all new parents.
