Class One

Hello, we are Class One and there are 15 of us. Some of us are in the last year of the Foundation Stage and some are Year Ones. We have adults to help us too. Mrs Nash and Mrs Edmondson are our teachers. Mrs Edmondson works with us on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Nash on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Wiseman is our Teaching Assistant and she is often in our class to share in the fun.

We learn a lot about literacy, numeracy, the world around us and are encouraged to find things out for ourselves and then tell the class about them. Our teachers feel it is very important for us to become independent in our learning and looking after ourselves and others. Learning through play is what our teachers call it.

Having fun dressing up

Our topic this term is Celebrations. We will be finding out about Divali, the Hindu festival of light. We will be hearing the Christmas story and using our imagination in art and craft activities.

Learning through play.As well as adults we have three special helpers: Woody who is our class frog, he is a puppet and often helps us in our work, he is not very clever but our teachers dont mind because he tries his best. Then there is Max the Monkey and Fergus another frog, they get to go on holiday with us so that we can bring back photographs of the exciting places we have seen in our holidays.

Class One and Two recently put on a really fantastic Christmas Production called 'It's A Party!' We practised the songs and learnt our parts and then we dressed up! We all had a part and showed the performance to our families and friends at school.

Please come back and see us again because next term we will have different activities to share with you.

Welcome to Class Two

We have been very busy in Class 2 having fun learning lots of new things.

We would like to share with you some of the things we have been doing in Science, Design and Technology, ICT and Music.

In our Science lessons we have learnt about sound. We looked at different musical instruments and found out how the sound is made. We really enjoyed designing and making our own instruments in Design and Technology. We then tested and evaluated them to see what we could make even better.

Our electricity display

Next we learnt about light. We learnt that light travels in straight lines and when it gets blocked by an object a shadow is formed.

We made shadow puppets and then in Literacy we wrote some plays for our puppets. We performed our plays in front of the class. The other children really enjoyed it.

At the moment our topic is Growing- animals and plants. We really enjoyed visiting some lambs and asking questions. In Literacy we made booklets about our visit.

It was great fun going on a minibeast hunt around the school, and we are growing cress and sunflowers. We cant wait to see whos grows the tallest!

In ICT we use the computers and Interactive Whiteboard to help us with our learning in lots of subjects.

We also enjoy programming Roamer, our floor robot, to follow routes around the classroom.

We enjoy playing instruments and learning new songs in our music lessons. Sometimes we record our music and songs, and play them back in class assembly.

We hope you like looking at our photographs of some of the things we have been doing.

Class 2

(Year 1 and Year 2)

Class Three

Pretending to be Vikings on a trip to Braeside

Welcome to Class 3!

We hope you all had a relaxing holiday. We have two wonderful teachers in Class 3 - Mrs.Hird, who works two days a week, alongside Mrs Helyar who teaches the other three days. They make a great team! Here are some of the interesting things we are learning this year :-

We will be looking at poetry from different cultures, various genres in writing (mainly science fiction), non-chronological reports and explanatory texts.

We will be working within numbers to 1000 (Year Three) and 10000 (Year Four) using addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, using a variety of methods. We will be solving problems, exploring different strategies and sharing our ideas. Shape and space will involve making and describing shapes and patterns.Directional language will be developed and the Year Fours will begin to draw and measure angles. We will also be looking at time and weight.

We are studying rocks and soils. This includes what makes up a soil, how rocks and soils are made and a brief look at what lives in the soil. After that our topic changes to separating solids and liquids which include sieving, filtering, heating, cooling and dissolving various solids and liquids. Great fun!

History and Geography

We will be asking the question of why Henry VIII married six times and then we are looking at the lives of the rich and the poor in Tudor times. In Geography we will be looking at what is going on in the news.

DT and Art

Following on from last terms science (electricity) we will be attempting to build an alarm system and a light. In Art we will be building on our Art skills to recreate the work of Adire Eleko and then we will be exploring sculptures with a Sci-Fi twist to link to Literacy.

PE and Music

In spring we will be doing swimming and Netball. In Term 4 swimming stops for Class 3 (to begin again in September) and we try our hand at Football and Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (problem solving challenges and orienteering). For Music we follow the Nelson Scheme on high and low sounds.

ICT (Information Communication Technology)

We will be using Talking First Word, (for writing text), e-mails and researching from the Internet. We will be using the digital microscope for investigating soil and use a program called Model Shop which creates various scenarios depending on how you set up your frame. Alongside this we will be using Literacy and Numeracy programs to support our class work.

PSHE / RE (Personal, Social and Health Education / Religious Education)

The Community will be our topic, looking at how we are part of the community and what our responsibilities are. RE ties in nicely with the topic of leaders (Moses) and later we will be looking at belonging to a community.

Class Four

Some of our artwork

Class 4 has 28 talented, lovely and enthusiastic pupils. We have 15 Year 6 pupils and 13 Year 5 pupils. We have a brand new, bright and spacious classroom which is equipped with all the latest equipment. Learning is exciting and so much fun as the curriculum is always interesting and dynamic. We have four computers with lots of fascinating programs and we can access the Internet and send emails.

In Class 4 we are given lots of responsibility. We are asked to help the dinner ladies by moving chairs. We organise the seating and music for assembly, collect team points on a Friday and do many classroom tasks.

We always feel comfortable in Class 4 because we are surrounded by our friends.

Many of our class play in the school netball and football teams. These are organised by Mrs. Hird and Mr.Mitchell.

Mrs. Cowen is our teacher normally but she has recently had an operation. We have welcomed Miss Lane to Class 4 and she will be teaching us full-time for Terms 3 and 4 this year. Mrs. Selwood is our Teaching Assistant. She helps with Literacy and Numeracy all week, but she also does a brilliant job making the props for our school productions as she is very artisitic. Teachers are allowed to give team points to pupils with good behaviour.

Our morning lessons include Literacy, Numeracy and Science. We have a 15-minute break in the morning. Lunch is at 12.05pm. Delicious! In the afternoon we have other lessons including a Reading Roundabout or topic work. Towards the end of the day we will endeavour to solve the daily problem that has been set for us. If there is any spare time we play our favourite game - "Head down, thumbs up" or share poems or news.

Each year, when SATs are over, we go on a superb residential trip to Halsway Manor, Somerset.
