St Edmunds R C Primary School
Duncan Street, SN11 9BX Calne

Welcome to the Saint Edmund's R.C. Primary School web site, and thank you for visiting us.

This Roman Catholic Primary School is situated in the town of Calne in the County of Wiltshire in south west England. It was built in 1971 to serve the local population of the town and surrounding villages, and the nearby Royal Air Force Station at Lyneham.

This web site offers information about the school, and its
Mission Statement. It contains details about the school's patron, Saint Edmund, and includes links to other relevant sites.

At the end of this Home Page are details of how to make contact with the school for further information.

This school is one of several Catholic primary schools within the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Clifton.

Saint Edmund's R.C. Primary School has 200 pupils on roll, aged four to eleven. The school building is light and open, of modern design, set with a pleasant three acre site, with landscaped grounds including hard play areas, a garden, a large pond, grass banks and playing field.

The interior of the school is of an open-plan design, with classrooms opening onto large shared practical areas. There is a large hall, administrative rooms, and a kitchen used for 'in-house' catering. The school caretaker lives on site, in a detached house within the school grounds.

The school is built on the northern side of the town of Calne, within a residential area, just off the main A3102 road from Calne to Lyneham and Swindon. It is about half a mile from the town centre and
Saint Edmund's Catholic Church.

The school strives to offer all pupils a broad and balanced curriculum which includes Religious Education and the subjects of the National Curriculum. It lays particular emphasis on children learning from first hand experience and the place of  creative arts. Many subjects are taught in an integrated way through topic work.
Pupils’ standards achieved over the past three years in end of  Key Stage National Curriculum Standard Assessment Tests have been above national and local levels. In December 2006 the school received a very favourable inspection report from        OFSTED, being described as a 'good school with some outstanding aspects'.

The school welcomes visitors and has an 'open-door' policy regarding parents in school. Many parents come into school to help classes. Students from local secondary schools and further education institutions  work at the school. The school has strong links with Bath Spa University and each year accepts students as part of their initial teacher training
