Information for parents/carers of children in Y1-6 wishing to start at Staverton

If you are moving to the area or transferring your child from another school your first move will be to contact us and make an appointment to view the school. During the visit you will be given the necessary forms which are returned to us and then forwarded to Wiltshire County Council's schools admissions section who will contact you thereafter.

Wiltshire County Council are the admitting authority and the granting of a place in school remains their decision.

Children with 5th birthdays 1st September – 31st March
Stay until 1.00pm on Thursday 20th September to Wednesday 26th September inclusive. On Thursday 27th September the children will have their first full day in school and will be ready to go home at 3.15pm. After that its 9.00am till 3.15pm every day.

Children with 5th birthdays 1st April – 31st August will go home at 12.00 noon until January when they will start full time after one week of staying to lunch.

The School Day
You may bring your child to school from 8.50 and take him or her to their classroom through the playground door. Once inside the room your child should hang up his/her coat and put her/his book bag in the tray. Any money may be put in the money basket in a named envelope. Please pay dinner money (£1.70 a day) on Monday if possible. Please put money in separate, named envelopes. Once inside the room there will be activities out for your child to go to.

The children will prepare their own snack (Government-provided fruit or vegetable) as part of their work programme and they will eat their tuck and have a drink of milk or water before going out to play at 10.30am.

Lunch is at 12.15  for Reception children. The children will go to the hall together and may sit with a friend from their class, regardless of whether they bring a packed lunch or are having sandwiches. After lunch the children will have a playtime before afternoon lessons start.

School ends at 3.15pm. Please wait for your child in the playground outside the classroom. The playground is very busy at the end of the day and we hand over the children one by one. Please be patient, we do not want to lose any children.

Your child will need

  • A bag for putting a reading book in. You may wish to buy one from the office - £3.50
  • Daps, shorts (blue if possible) P.E. shirt (blue or white) socks, joggers for the cold weather
  • School dress – blue sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan, blue or white polo shirt (much easier than proper shirts and blouses) grey trousers or skirt, white or grey socks.

If you wish your child to bring packed lunches, the school policy is that sweets, glass bottles or fizzy drinks are not allowed, thank you.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME

Clubs

logo

At Staverton Primary School we have a range of extracurricular clubs which run at lunchtimes and after school. Most are free but where an outside coach or tutor is bought in there is a charge.

Clubs run for all or part of the year and a clubs letter enables you to sign up for the clubs of your choice. Where a club is oversubsribed every effort is made to allocate places fairly.

The actual clubs offered can change from term to term. The clubs letter will detail how long a club will be run for.

After-school clubs run from 3:15 to either 4pm or 4:15pm. If for any reason a club has to be cancelled we will make every effort to contact you as soon as possible.

They typically include:

Chess

Choir

Football

Cooking

Drama

ICT

Sports

Art

Cricket

Music (this year Ocarinas)
