Boarding and Day
Numbers are evenly split between boarders and day girls. Many day girls stay for the evening to take part in clubs and supervised prep. Flexi-boarding is growing fast as girls develop wider interests and parents' work schedules increase.
A wide range of activities throughout the weekend balances girls' hobbies, sporting interests and cultural pursuits. Trips to theatres and concerts are popular as are outward bound weekends and visits to Canada, New Zealand, Ecuador and the Himalayas.
Stonar offers Scholarships to talented new pupils entering the school at all levels.
To enter for an academic scholarship, candidates may sit either the Common Entrance for Stonar or sit the Stonar Entrance examination for the appropriate age group. Successful candidates are invited back to take a more challenging paper, designed to test the analytical and problem-solving skills of the candidate. Assessment for Sixth Form Scholarships are carried out towards the end of the Autumn Term prior to entry the following September.
These are our own papers and do not require any special coaching or preparation by candidates.
Reports will be required from the candidate’s present school and the Head’s reference will play an important part in the selection of scholars.
All scholarship candidates will also be interviewed by the Headmistress or Deputy Head of Stonar. The interviews will be friendly, yet probing and candidates will be asked about their extra-curricular interests and will have the opportunity to display their general knowledge and interest in Current Affairs.
In addition bursaries are available for some candidates whose parents are experiencing financial hardship. There is a Financial Assessment Form available for completion on request.
Music, Drama, Sport and Riding and the All-rounder
Scholarships are available for talented young musicians and sportswomen, for drama students and of course for riding. The all-rounder is given in exceptional circustances to a pupil who demonstrates flair in three areas. Details of assessment procedures are available from the school. For further information contact our Registrar.
The acceptance of a scholarship at Stonar carries responsibilities for the scholar, whose award may be reassessed in the event of lack of progress due to lack of effort. Riding scholars are expected to have lessons at school and to be available for school teams. Sports scholars are expected to be available for school teams and be prepared to put fixtures before other commitments. Music scholars will be expected to support the school choir and orchestra and to have specialist Music lessons at Stonar. Drama scholars will be expected to be available for school productions and to support drama at Stonar.
If you would like to secure a place on the waiting list, please complete and return to us a Registration Form, together with the registration fee. This will ensure that we are able to keep you in touch with events at Stonar, so that by the time your daughter joins us, she will already feel part of the community. Once we have received a Registration Form, your daughter may like to spend a day, or a day and night with us.
Entrance Examinations are normally taken in the January prior to the September in which your daughter would join us. However, these can be taken at other times during the year upon request.
