Together we'll succeed

At Cottingley Village Primary School we provide a broad and balanced education for all the children in our care. We aim to create a happy, caring, and stimulating learning environment in which all children can grow in confidence and fulfil their potential.

We aim to:

Continue the strong commitment to raising standards of all pupils' achievement to the highest standards and quality in all aspects of the work of the school.

Sustain the caring ethos which significantly enhances the quality of life in the school.

Help all children achieve their potential by following the National Curriculum, Literacy and Numeracy strategies and developing teaching and learning to cater for all children's needs.

Promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, and physical development of all children.

Maintain an environment in which all children are happy, feel valued as individuals, and show care and respect for each other and the community.

Prepare all children for their future education and the world in which they will live

Admissions

All children are admitted into school during the academic year in which they reach their fifth birthday.  The admission number is 60 per year group. The Local Education Authority will draw a catchment area if more than 60 children require places.

Children usually transfer from the Reception class in the September following their fifth birthday and then progress annually through the various classes in the school.  They are placed in mixed ability classes according to age.  Each teacher organises his or her children into groups.  The class work is structured to match each child’s ability.

Children will transfer to a secondary school in the September following their eleventh birthday.  During the final year in the primary school details of secondary school choices will be sent to parents .

Parent Teacher Association

There is a group of parents, carers and friends who enthusiastically raise funds for the school.  Additional fund raising helps us to buy extra resources that benefit all children in school.  Social activities are planned for both children and families.  All parents are regarded as members as there is lots of work for willing hands.  We are grateful for the hard work and enthusiasm of this group whose efforts will help us to enrich and broaden the curriculum.
