Introduction to Lower Fields

Lower Fields Primary School opened in September 2000, following the re-organisation of schooling in Bradford.

As such, we began with a blank piece of paper and have necessarily developed every aspect of our being since that time. This has been both challenging and exciting but we believe that we have achieved much in the three years we have existed.

“This is an effective school in which pupils achieve well. The school has come a long way in less than three years.”
(OFSTED Report, March 2003.)

The school is a mixed, comprehensive two-form entry, community primary school catering for 420 pupils from reception to year six. We also have a part-time, 26 place nursery.

We work in a bright, modern building which is set in extensive grounds. The site contains more species of trees than any other school in Bradford, hence the tree logo on our school uniform and correspondence.

Each group of children has a class base and a teacher with pastoral responsibility for each pupil. In most cases, this teacher delivers the majority of the curriculum to the class but we are fortunate in being able to offer some specialist teaching in art, design technology, ICT, music and PE.

The school has achieved much in the short time. We have been awarded Investor in People status, a School Standard Award and received a very positive OFSTED Report in 2003.

However, we always strive to improve and have written a new Three Year Development Plan for 2003-2006. Furthermore, we constantly look to develop new initiatives which will benefit our children. We engage in our own ‘action research’ projects to develop this work.

A school can only be successful if it engages with all members of its community. Lower Fields Primary School constantly strives to do this and by doing so fulfils its mission statement of “Sharing the Vision, Achieving Success.”

“The school’s principal aim of ‘Sharing the Vision, Achieving Success’ is realised and staff, pupils and parents do indeed feel part of this school.”
(OFSTED Report, 2003.)
